STONEHILL REGISTERS 4-1 WIN OVER WOMEN’S SOCCER

Easton, Mass. – Nicole Geraghty scored a pair of goals in the second half to lead Stonehill College to a 4-1 win over the Le Moyne College women's soccer team in Northeast-10 Conference action on Saturday afternoon at Skyhawk Field.

After the teams combined for 14 shots over the opening 31 minutes, including eight that needed to be saved, the Dolphins opened the game's scoring in the 33rd minute. Senior midfielder Kirsten Colegrove (Athens, Pa./Athens) carried the ball past defenders at the top of the penalty box before sending a shot from the right side into the left corner of the net for her first goal of the season.

Neither team put a shot on goal over the final 12 minutes of the half as the Dolphins took the 1-0 lead into halftime.

Stonehill jumped on the Dolphins to start the second half, scoring three times in the opening 7:41 of the stanza. The Skyhawks tied the score at one apiece at the 48:15 mark as Courtney Campo chipped the ball into the box, where Geraghty was able to slip a shot past the goalkeeper for her first tally of the season.

Just over three minutes later, Kayla Henry sent a pass up the middle of the field to Alex Giardina, who then found the back of the net for her first mark of the campaign.

Nicole Garfield capped the three-goal at the 52:41 mark as she collected the ball after a Giardina shot hit the crossbar and shot it off a defender and into the net for her second goal of the year.

The Skyhawks finished off the game's scoring at the 68:49 mark as Garfield fed a through ball to Geraghty, who fired a shot inside the far post for her second tally of the day.

Junior goalkeeper Anastasija Cumika (Riga, Latvia/Riga Kengarags/West Florida) registered six saves, including five in the first half, in the setback. Kaitlin Brown recorded five saves, including three in the first half, to earn the win between the pipes. Stonehill posted a 19-13 advantage in shots, including 11-5 in the second half, while taking three of the game's four corner kicks.
