MERCY USES EARLY GOAL TO DOWN WOMEN’S SOCCER, 1-0

Syracuse, N.Y. – Ally Boots knocked in a loose ball to lead Mercy College to a 1-0 win over the Le Moyne College women's soccer team in non-conference action on Tuesday afternoon at Ted Grant Field.

Just under two minutes into the game, the Mavericks scored the only goal they would need. After carrying the ball into the right side of the penalty box, Haley Noble fired a shot on net, but it was turned away by junior goalkeeper Anastasija Cumika (Riga, Latvia/Riga Kengarags/West Florida). The rebound bounced to Boots at the top of the goal box, where she was able to one-time the loose ball into the back of the net at the 1:52 mark for her sixth goal of the season.

The Mavericks forced Cumika to make two more saves before the Dolphins were able to take their first shot of the game, which came at the 22:56 mark and was saved by goalkeeper Melissa Torres.

Cumika and Torres each made one more save over the final 14 minutes of the first half as the Mavericks carried the 1-0 lead into the intermission.

The Dolphins, who suffered their third 1-0 loss of the season, recorded the first three shots of the second half, the last of which hit off the outside of the right post.

Cumika kept the score 1-0 in the 61st minute with a save, while reserve goalkeeper Ashley Price turned away Le Moyne's final shot on goal of the game in the 84th minute.

Cumika finished the contest with five saves, while Torres earned the win for the Mavericks with two first-half saves. Each team took 11 shots, while Mercy recorded a 6-3 advantage in corner kicks.

Le Moyne (1-5), which also fell to the Mavericks, 1-0, at home in 2015, returns to Northeast-10 Conference action on Saturday at the University of New Haven at 7:00 p.m.
