WOMEN’S SOCCER PICKS UP FIRST NE10 WIN, 3-1, AT NEW HAVEN

West Haven, Conn. – Sophomore midfielder Claire Stackel (Watertown, N.Y./Copenhagen) recorded a goal and an assist to lead the Le Moyne College women's soccer team to a 3-1 win over the University of New Haven on Saturday evening in Northeast-10 Conference action at Kayo Field.

After a scoreless first half, the Dolphins struck for the first goal of the game just over 11 minutes into the second half. Off a rebound of a shot knocked down by the goalkeeper, freshman forward Maddison Vine (Ogdensburg, N.Y./Lisbon) put the ball into the back of the net for her first collegiate goal.

The Dolphins extended their lead to 2-0 at the 59:29 mark. Senior midfielder Brielle Filtch (Marcellus, N.Y./Marcellus/Mansfield) sent a pass into the penalty box to Stackel, who fired a shot inside the right post for her first tally of the season.

New Haven answered back just 2:13 later to get back within a goal. After the ball was turned away by the goalkeeper, Marisa Pacapelli half-volleyed the ball into the back of the net for her third goal of the campaign. Jenna Peduzzi was credited with an assist on the goal.

Le Moyne added an insurance goal with 12:41 to play. Following a free kick, Stackel sent the free kick into the penalty box, where sophomore midfielder/forward Jada Sargeant (Camillus, N.Y./Marcellus/Buffalo State) volleyed the ball into the back of the net for her first collegiate goal.

Junior goalkeeper Anastasija Cumika (Riga, Latvia/Riga Kengarags/West Florida) registered five saves, including three in the second half, to earn the victory between the pipes. Kyra Wolonsavich made four saves for the Chargers in the loss. Le Moyne recorded a 17-9 advantage in shots, while posting an 8-6 edge in corner kicks.
