BREUNUNG HEADS MEN’S SOCCER PAST AMERICAN INTERNATIONAL, 1-0

Springfield, Mass. – First-year graduate student back Niklas Breunung (Fulda, Germany/Freiherr-vom-Stein Schule Fulda/Hochschule Fulda/University of Applied Sciences) headed home a corner kick to lead the Le Moyne College men's soccer team to a 1-0 victory over American International College on Wednesday night in Northeast-10 Conference action at Abdow Field.

The Dolphins scored the only goal they would need just under 12 minutes into the contest. Off a corner kick by redshirt senior midfielder Marcello Palucci (Miami, Fla./Gulliver Prep/Florida International), Breunung headed the ball into the back of the net for his first tally as a Dolphin.

The teams combined for five shots over the final 33 minutes of the first half, but none were on target as the teams went into the intermission with the Dolphins leading, 1-0.

The Yellow Jackets had a four-minute and 21-second flurry early in the second half where they fired three shots on goal, but senior goalkeeper Ben Beaury (Cohoes, N.Y./LaSalle Institute) was able to keep the Yellow Jackets off the scoreboard.

Beaury finished the contest with four saves to record his 25th career shutout between the pipes. He is now tied with Steve White '09 for the second-most shutouts in the program's history and is one behind the record of 26 held by Matthew Silva '14. Nicholas Romei did not make a save for the Yellow Jackets in the loss. American International posted a 10-9 advantage in shots and a 7-6 edge in corner kicks.

Le Moyne (4-1-1, 1-1-1 NE10), which defeated American International for the first time since 2011 (0-3-2), returns home to host the University of New Haven on Saturday at 1:00 p.m.
