MEN’S SOCCER POSTS 2-1 COME-FROM-BEHIND WIN OVER ASSUMPTION

Syracuse, N.Y. – First-year graduate student forward Marek Weber (Fulda, Germany/Sportgymnasium Jena/Goethe-University Frankfurt) scored the game-winner midway through the first half as the Le Moyne College men's soccer team recorded a 2-1 come-from-behind victory over Assumption College on Tuesday afternoon in Northeast-10 Conference action at Ted Grant Field.

After each team had a pair of shots missed their target in the first 11 minutes of the game, the Greyhounds opened the scoring in the 12th minute. After sending a pass to Kevin Hernandez in the center of the field, Simon Trcka made a run up the middle. Hernandez fed Trcka into the penalty box, where he was able to slip a shot past the goalkeeper in a one-on-one situation and inside the right post for his third goal of the year.

The Dolphins, who trailed during the run of play for the first time in eight games this season, answered back just 3:20 later. Following a throw in from the right side, first-year graduate student back Niklas Breunung (Fulda, Germany/Freiherr-vom-Stein Schule Fulda/Hochschule Fulda/University of Applied Sciences) played the ball from inside the penalty box to the top of the box. Redshirt senior midfielder Marcello Palucci (Miami, Fla./Gulliver Prep/Florida International) volleyed the bouncing ball with his left foot inside the near right post at the 14:46 mark for his first tally of the season.

Following three Le Moyne shots that needed to be saved, two of which were turned away at the goal line by defenders, the Dolphins took the lead. Off pass from the center of the field by sophomore midfielder Salar Faryar (Frankfurt, Germany/Max-Eyth Schule), Weber collected the ball 25 yards out and carried it into the penalty box. After faking out his defender, Weber blasted a shot into the upper right corner of the net at the 33:02 mark for his ninth goal of the campaign, the second-most in the NE10.

The scoreless second half featured just one shot on goal by each team, with both shots being corralled by the respective goalkeepers.

Senior goalkeeper Ben Beaury (Cohoes, N.Y./LaSalle Institute) registered one save to earn his 43rd career victory between the pipes. Brian Murray made three saves, including two in the first half, for the Greyhounds in the loss. Le Moyne recorded a 13-10 advantage in shots, while taking six of the game's eight corner kicks.

Le Moyne (6-1-1, 3-1-1 NE10), which defeated the Greyhounds for the 10th straight time, is back in action on Saturday at Merrimack College at 12:00 p.m.
