North Andover, Mass. – Lars Sund assisted on the first two goals and scored the third to lead Merrimack College to a 3-0 win over the Le Moyne College men's soccer team in Northeast-10 Conference action on Saturday afternoon at Martone-Mejail Field.
Each team's goalkeeper was forced to make two saves in the opening 20 minutes of the game, while Merrimack also had a shot clang off the crossbar in the 27th minute.
The Warriors broke through for the only goal they would need in the 39th minute. Sund sent a cross from the left side towards the top right corner of the goal box. Zachary Elliot beat the goalkeeper to the ball and headed it inside the right post at the 38:40 mark for his first goal of the season.
Merrimack tripled its lead with a pair of goals in a span of 91 seconds in the opening nine minutes of the second half. Sund played the ball into open space just outside the penalty box to Filippo Begliardi Ghidini, who slipped a soft shot inside the post at the 52:02 mark for his fourth goal of the campaign. Sund followed by depositing a free kick into the upper right corner of the net from the left side for his fourth marker of the year.
The Warriors put four more shots on goal over the final 33 minutes of the contest, but could not add to their lead, while the Dolphins had two opportunities to get on the scoreboard, but could not beat the goalkeeper.
Senior goalkeeper
Ben Beaury (Cohoes, N.Y./LaSalle Institute) recorded seven saves, including four in the second half, in the loss for the Dolphins. Lucas Rezende tallied a pair of saves in each half to pick up his seventh shutout of the season.
