RICHMOND’S LAST-SECOND THREE-POINTER GIVES BENTLEY 73-70 OVERTIME WIN OVER MEN’S BASKETBALL

Syracuse, N.Y. – All-Conference guard Ryan Richmond hit a step-back three-pointer with 0.9 seconds remaining in overtime to give Bentley University a 73-70 come-from-behind victory over the Le Moyne College men's basketball team on Wednesday night in Northeast-10 Conference action at Ted Grant Court.

Senior guard Russell Sangster (Rockville, Md./Bullis School) led the Dolphins in the loss with 21 points, including 13 in the second half, six rebounds and four assists (against zero turnovers). Redshirt senior guard Tyquan Rolon (Syracuse, N.Y./Nottingham/Mohawk Valley C.C.) tallied 19 points, including 11 in the first half, seven rebounds, four assists and two steals in 39 minutes off the bench. Senior guard Tanner Hyland (South Portland, Maine/South Portland/Bridgton Academy) recorded 12 points, five rebounds and two steals in 36 minutes off the bench. Senior forward Daniel Kaigler (Syracuse, N.Y./Bishop Ludden/Gannon) posted 10 points and five rebounds in his first start of the season.

Richmond's game-winning three-pointer gave him a game-high 25 points, which included 12 in the second half and five in overtime, while adding six rebounds. Chris Hudson finished with 20 points, including his team's first 11, and eight rebounds. Zach Gilpin was the third Falcon in twin figures with 12 points, while Brandon Wheeler pulled down a game-best 16 rebounds.

The Falcons opened the game with the first five points, while the Dolphins answered with five points of the own for the first of 11 ties in the game. Hudson scored all five of Bentley's points, while Rolon hit a three-pointer and Sangster made a lay-up.

Following ties at seven and nine, Bentley scored six straight points to take its largest lead of the game. Hudson, Gilpin and Richmond each scored two points in the stretch.

Le Moyne answered with six straight points and 10 of the next 12 to take its first lead of the game. Rolon buried back-to-back three-pointers and Kaigler followed with a pair of lay-ups.

After a 5-3 Bentley spurt tied the score at 22 with 6:28 left in the first half, the Dolphins scored seven straight points and 16 of the next 21 to take their first double-digit lead of the game. Kaigler scored the first four points, Hyland drained two three-pointers around lay-ups by senior forward Isaiah Eisendorf (Silver Spring, Md./Springbrook/Gannon) and Rolon and Sangster capped the jaunt with a jumper in the paint with 1:14 to go.

Jordan Mello-Klein got the Falcons within 38-30 of the Dolphins at halftime by connecting on a three-pointer as time expired.

After Le Moyne's lead bounced between seven and 10 points over the first 11 and one-half minutes of the second half, Sangster and Eisendorf hit jumpers around a free throw by Wheeler to give the Dolphins their largest lead of the game, 54-42, with 7:08 to play.

Bentley answered back with nine of the next 10 points to trim its deficit back to four, 55-51, with 5:19 left in regulation. Matt Turkington made a jumper, Richmond converted two free throws, Hudson registered a conventional three-point play and then Richmond knocked down a jumper in the paint.

The teams split the next 12 points before the Falcons tallied the final four points of the second half. Richmond made two free throws and then hit a jumper with 2:17 to even the score at 61.

Each team went 0-for-3 from the field over the final 1:58, while Bentley lost control of the ball on its last possession. After a Le Moyne timeout with 1.5 seconds left, Sangster got off a three-quarter court shot, but it hit off the front rim.

Richmond started the scoring in overtime with a jumper and Hudson followed with a three-pointer from the left corner to give the Falcons a 66-61 lead. Hyland answered with a three-pointer and then Sangster converted a lay-up to tie the score at 66 with 1:42 left.

Mello-Klein and Eisendorf traded jumpers to push the score to 68 apiece, while Hudson put the Falcons in front with a lay-up with 29 seconds left before Rolon tied the score for the final time with a lay-up with 9.8 seconds to go.

After controlling the ball on the right side, Richmond dribbled to the top of the key, where he drained the game-winning three-pointer with 0.9 seconds left.

Rolon's desperation heave came up short as time expired.

Le Moyne (9-5, 6-1 NE10), which has dropped five straight games to the Falcons, is back on Ted Grant Court on Saturday against Franklin Pierce University at 3:00 p.m.
