Endicott, N.Y. – Junior Nicholas Barney (Apalachin, N.Y./Vestal) finished in third place as the Le Moyne College men's golf team placed fifth at the 38th Northeast-10 Conference Men's Golf Championship, which was held on Sunday and Monday at the par-72, 6750-yard En-Joie Golf Club.

Southern New Hampshire University won its fourth conference championship with a championship-record score of two-under par 574. The Penmen, who also won the championship at En-Joie in 2015, tallied a two-under 286 in the first round to take a two-shot lead and then turned in an even-par 288 to increase their lead to 12. Bentley University, last year's winner, finished in second place with a 586 off rounds of even-par 288 and 298. Assumption College placed third with a 590 after scores of 297 and 293. The Dolphins, who finished in the top-two each of the previous four years, registered a 297 in the first round to land in a three-way tie for third and posted a 302 on Monday to drop to fifth. Southern New Hampshire senior Matt Paradis earned medalist honors for the second consecutive year after registering an eight-under par 136. The eight-under is the best by an individual in the history of the championship. Paradis recorded a first-round six-under par 66, which is tied for the lowest round in the championship's history, and followed with a two-under par 70 to increase his margin of victory to four. Paradis snapped a streak of four straight individual champions coming from the host institution (SNHU's Jake Nutter in 2014, Le Moyne's John Clare in 2015 and Saint Rose's Corey Purcell in 2016).

Barney, who tied for 18th at the championship as a freshman and tied for 13th last year, registered a third-place finish with a career-best two-under par 142. Barney, who was four-under on the eight par-5s, joined Paradis as the only competitors in the 50-member field to shoot under par in each round. He opened with a one-under 71, his first career round under par, to land in a tie for third place. He carded another 71, which included three birdies and a 12th-hole eagle, to take sole possession of third place.

Junior Jonathan Petrin (Cicero, N.Y./Cicero-North Syracuse) recorded a five-over 149 to place 17th. He turned in a two-over 74, including three birdies, to land in a five-way tie for 13th place. He recorded three more birdies as part of a 75 in the second round.

Redshirt junior Daniel Leek (LaFargeville, N.Y./LaFargeville), who played in the championship for the first time, finished in a six-way tie for 25th place with a 153. He was part of a seven-way tie for 23rd place after tallying a 76 in the first round. He dipped two spots following a 77 on the second day.

Sophomore Ryan Johnson (Norwich, N.Y./Norwich), who also made his NE10 debut, tied for 39th place with a 158. He joined Leek in the tie for 23rd with a first-round 76, which featured a team-high four birdies. He turned in an 82 in the second round.

Sophomore Kyle Reader (East Syracuse, N.Y./East Syracuse-Minoa), another first-time NE10 Championship competitor, recorded a 161 to place 43rd. After posting an 82 in the first round, he carded a 79 on Monday to move up two spots in the standings.

The Dolphins are back on the links at the Saint Rose Fall Shootout on Friday and Saturday at Pinehaven Country Club in Guilderland, N.Y.
