Sparkill, N.Y. – The Le Moyne College women's tennis team recorded a 6-1 win over St. Thomas Aquinas College in non-conference action on Sunday afternoon.
The Dolphins won two of the three matches in the doubles competition to earn the first point of the afternoon. At the top position, senior
Tiffany Hamdan (Johnson City, N.Y./Johnson City/Roberts Wesleyan) and freshman
Birdem Oz (Istanbul, Turkey/TED Ankara College Foundation HS) defeated Katarina Lopez and Maya O'Brien, 6-1. Freshmen
Belen Wibmer (Maldonado, Uruguay/St. Joseph Mary College) and
Brooke Fernandez (Shirley, N.Y./William Floyd) were victorious in their first dual match as a tandem with a 6-0 win over Anna Ristova and Ulyana Kitcmanuk at the third spot. Amelie Meyers and Chiara Dittrich edged sophomores
Marta Nunez (Rye, N.Y./Antonio Lopez (Spain)) and
Caroline St. Antoine (Longueuil, Québec/Cégep Édouard-Montpetit) at the second position, 6-4.
Le Moyne claimed five of the six matches in the singles competition. Oz won 12 straight games against Ristova at the second spot for a 6-0, 6-0 victory. Nunez improved to 11-1 in dual matches with a 6-2, 6-1 win over Meyers at the third position. St. Antoine also tallied a 6-2, 6-1 win at the fourth spot against Dittrich. Wibmer collected her 10th dual match win of the year, 6-1, 6-3, over O'Brien at the fifth position. Sophomore
Camila Humala (Lima, Peru/Antonio Raimondi) defeated Kitcmanuk at the sixth spot with back-to-back 6-0 wins. Lopez earned the lone point for the Spartans with a 6-2, 6-3 win at the first position against Hamdan.
Le Moyne (9-4) returns home to face Roberts Wesleyan College on Wednesday at 1:30 p.m. at Elevate Fitness.
