Syracuse, N.Y. – Second-year graduate student forward
Marek Weber (Fulda, Germany/Sportgymnasium Jena/Goethe-University Frankfurt) scored less than seven minutes into the game as the Le Moyne College men's soccer team registered a 1-0 victory over Southern Connecticut State University in Northeast-10 Conference action on Wednesday afternoon at Ted Grant Field.
The Dolphins scored the only goal they would need before seven minutes had been eclipsed in the game. Off a headed pass by sophomore back
Patrick Strauss (Lakewood, Ohio/St. Ignatius), junior midfielder
Pablo Fernandez (Aviles, Spain/Real Oviedo) fired a shot from just outside the top of the penalty box. With the shot heading towards the right post, Weber was able to redirect the ball inside the post at the 6:54 mark for his 12th goal of the season. Weber's 30 goals over the last two seasons are tied with Gold Wave Hall of Fame member and current assistant coach Francesco Riverso's 30 between 2000 and 2001 for the most by a Dolphin in a two-year span. Overall, Weber's 30 goals are the 10th-most in the program's history, while his 64 points are tied for the 12th-most.
The Dolphins had a chance to double their lead in the 31st minute, but the shot hit the crossbar.
The Owls had their best scoring chance in the 73rd minute after Le Moyne's goalkeeper was issued a red card for intentionally handling the ball outside of the penalty box. Off the restart just outside the top of the penalty box, Kevin Van der Pol put a shot on goal, but new goalkeeper
Jerry Lewandowski (Clifton Park, N.Y./Shenendehowa) was able to smother the ball.
Southern Connecticut State had three more shots over the final 10:23, but didn't put any on target.
Redshirt freshman goalkeeper
Josh Mahr (Fayetteville, N.Y./Fayetteville-Manlius) earned his ninth win of the season after not needing to make a save in 72:01 between the pipes before being ejected. Bailey Bassett made a save in each half in the setback. Southern Connecticut State finished the game with a 10-7 advantage in shots, including 7-2 in the second half, while taking seven of the game's nine corner kicks.
