Syracuse, N.Y. – Second-year graduate student forward
Marek Weber (Fulda, Germany/Sportgymnasium Jena/Goethe-University Frankfurt) had a career-high seven points to lead the Le Moyne College men's soccer team to a 6-0 victory over Saint Michael's College in Northeast-10 Conference action on Saturday afternoon at Ted Grant Field.
Weber's seven points came on a career high-tying three goals and one assist. Weber is the only Dolphin over the last 16 seasons to record at least seven points in a conference game and he is the first to score three goals in a conference game since Matthew Pecheone '09 at Stonehill on September 1, 2007. Weber's 33 goals and 71 points over the last two seasons are the most by a Dolphin in a two-year span in the program's history, eclipsing the previous highs of 30 goals and 69 points by Gold Wave Hall of Fame member and current assistant coach
Francesco Riverso '02 between 2000 and 2001. Overall, Weber's 33 career goals are the eighth-most in the program's history, while his 71 points are the 10th-most. Additionally, he is the only Dolphin to record at least 15 goals in multiple seasons and he joins Scott Newman '05 as the only Dolphins to post multiple 30-point seasons.
After each team had a shot saved in the first three minutes, the Dolphins scored the only goal they would need just over 13 and one-half minutes into the game. Off a cross from the right sideline by Weber, junior forward
Salar Faryar (Frankfurt, Germany/Max-Eyth Schule) pushed a pass to his left to sophomore midfielder
Robert Rohrhirsch (Garching bei München, Germany/Werner-Heisenberg-Gymnasium Garching/Munich University of Applied Sciences), who ripped a shot from 19 yards out into the lower right corner of the net at the 13:36 mark for his first goal as a Dolphin.
Le Moyne followed with three goals in a span of 5:35. Off a cross from the left side of the penalty box by Faryar, Weber slipped a shot from the middle of the field into the center of the net from five yards out at the 26:09 mark for his 13th tally of the campaign.
Only 2:12 later, Weber headed the ball into the back of the net from four yards out at the right post off a cross from the left corner by junior midfielder
Pablo Fernandez (Aviles, Spain/Real Oviedo).
Rohrhirsch capped the spurt at the 31:44 mark by slotting a shot into the right side of the net from 10 yards out on the left side of the box off a feed up the middle by senior midfielder
Sam Daniel (Bonnyrigg, Scotland/Lasswade/University of Mobile).
The Dolphins extended their lead to five less than 10 minutes into the second half. Off a pass from the top right corner of the penalty box by sophomore back
Brent McKeown (Burlington, Vt./Rice/Hartwick), Weber registered his 15th goal of the season at the 54:49 mark from the left post.
Le Moyne completed the game's scoring with just 23 seconds remaining. Off a corner kick from the right side by freshman midfielder
Josh Doback (Baldwinsville, N.Y./C.W. Baker), second-year graduate student back
Niklas Breunung (Fulda, Germany/Freiherr-vom-Stein Schule Fulda/Fulda University of Applied Sciences) headed the ball off the bottom of the crossbar and into the net from six yards out for his second marker of the year.
Redshirt sophomore goalkeeper
Jerry Lewandowski (Clifton Park, N.Y./Shenendehowa) registered three saves in his second career start between the pipes to earn the victory. Leland Gazo recorded six saves, including four in the first half, in the setback for the Purple Knights. Le Moyne finished the contest with a 19-5 advantage in shots, while taking all six of the game's corner kicks.
