New Haven, Conn. – The Le Moyne College women's soccer fell in its road finale, 1-0, to Southern Connecticut State University on Wednesday evening in Northeast-10 Conference action at Jess Dow Field.
In the scoreless first half, the Owls registered a 7-3 advantage in shots, while each team put two shots on goal.
Over the opening 15 minutes of the second half, the Dolphins put three shots on goal, but each was saved by SCSU goalkeeper Abigail Allen.
Following a foul on the Dolphins 30 yards out, Paula Nunez-Escobar served the free kick into the penalty box. A Dolphin defender got her head on the ball about 12 yards out, but it went backwards and into the net at the 70:41 mark for a 1-0 Southern Connecticut lead.
The Dolphins put the game's final shot on goal with 37 seconds left, but Allen made the save.
Senior goalkeeper
Anastasija Cumika (Riga, Latvia/Riga Kengarags/West Florida) finished the contest with four saves in the setback. Allen tallied six saves, including four in the second half, to earn her eighth win and fourth shutout of the season.
Le Moyne (4-12, 2-11 NE10) closes out the season on Saturday at home against Pace University at 11:00 a.m. Prior to the game, the senior class of Cumika,
Jessica Pignato (Hilton, N.Y./Hilton),
Kelsi Fredericks (Cazenovia, N.Y./Cazenovia/SUNY Oswego) and
Riley Wilde (Holden, Mass./Wachusett Regional/Canisius) will be honored by the Dolphin Athletic Association for their contributions to the program.
