MEN’S SOCCER FALLS TO AMERICAN INTERNATIONAL, 2-1, IN FIRST ROUND OF NE10 CHAMPIONSHIP

Syracuse, N.Y. – Alexandre Frank scored with 4:00 left to give eighth-seeded American International College a 2-1 upset win over the top-seeded Le Moyne College men's soccer team in the first round of the Northeast-10 Conference Championships on Tuesday afternoon at Ted Grant Field.

Le Moyne (13-3-1), which had its eight-game unbeaten (7-0-1) streak snapped, now awaits a possible bid to the NCAA Championships. The field will be announced on NCAA.com on Monday evening. The Dolphins were sixth in last week's NCAA East Region rankings.

Following two shots on goal by the Yellow Jackets and one by the Dolphins in the first 33 minutes, the Dolphins broke through in the 41st minute. After stealing the ball near the right sideline, junior forward Salar Faryar (Frankfurt, Germany/Max-Eyth Schule) carried the ball to the top right side of the penalty box before firing a shot into the upper left corner of the net at the 40:45 mark for his career-best 15th goal of the season. The goal gives Faryar 36 for his career and 83 total points. He takes over sole possession of fifth place on the program's career goals list and jumps to sixth in career points.

American International evened the score at one apiece just 41 seconds later after a Dolphin was whistled for a handball on the left side of the penalty box. Jake Durham stepped up and buried a hard shot just to the right of the center at the 41:26 mark for his second goal of the campaign.

The Yellow Jackets had their first chance to take the lead in the second half in the 53rd minute as Josip Validzic went in one-on-one with redshirt freshman goalkeeper Josh Mahr (Fayetteville, N.Y./Fayetteville-Manlius), but Mahr was able to make a kick save near the top of the penalty box.

American International took the lead with just four minutes left to play. After taking a pass from the left sideline, Frank fired a shot from the top left side of the penalty box. The ball hit off a Le Moyne defender's foot 12 yards in front of the net and deflected inside the left post of Frank's sixth goal of the season.

Le Moyne, which was 15th in this week's United Soccer Coaches rankings released during the game, was unable to get a shot off in the remaining four minutes.

Mahr finished the contest with four saves, including two in each half, in suffering his third loss of the season. Nicholas Romei recorded one save in the first half to earn his third win of the year. The Dolphins posted a 9-7 edge in shots, including 6-4 in the first half, while taking all five of the game's corner kicks.
