Williamsville, N.Y. – The Le Moyne College men's tennis team earned its first win of the Spring season with a 5-4 victory over Daemen College on Saturday afternoon at the Miller Tennis Center.
The Dolphins opened the afternoon by winning two of the three matches in the doubles competition. At the first position, sophomore
Philip Blythe (Edinburgh, Scotland/Merchiston) and senior
Hallam Doney (Andover, Hampshire/Peter Symonds) defeated Jose Williamson and Fabian Wilde, 8-4. Juniors
Xavier Graells (Castellar del Vallès, Spain/IES Castellar /Harford Community College) and
Tyler Underwood (Minoa, N.Y./East Syracuse-Minoa) turned in an 8-3 win over Tim Georg and Pablo Martinez at the third spot. The Wildcats got on the board at the second spot as D Gonzalez Villegas and Rico Ruiz Martinez edged junior
Andres Hernandez (Monterrey, Mexico/Laurel Springs/Texas Rio Grande Valley) and senior
Jason Barton (Lima, Ohio/Shawnee), 9-8.
The teams split the singles competition, which gave the Dolphins the victory. Blythe was a 6-1, 6-1 winner at the first spot over Georg, while Hernandez topped Gonzalez Villegas at the second position, 6-1, 6-4. Freshman
Christian Erickson (Fairport, N.Y./Fairport) clinched the match by rallying to defeat Martinez at the fifth spot, 2-6, 6-4, 7-5. Ruiz Martinez tallied a 6-4, 2-6, 6-2 win at the third position over Graells. Williamson defeated Underwood at the sixth position, 6-4, 5-7, 6-4. Wilde picked up the win at the fourth spot after Barton retired leading 6-3, 4-6, 0-4.
Le Moyne (3-3) is back in action on Sunday morning against Merrimack College at 8:00 a.m. at Elevate Fitness.
