SWEET 16! TOP-RANKED MEN’S LACROSSE CLINCHES NE10 REGULAR SEASON TITLE WITH 10-8 WIN AT SAINT MICHAEL’S

Colchester, Vt. – Freshman attackman Devin Andrews (Canandaigua, N.Y./Canandaigua Academy/Stony Brook) recorded four points as the top-ranked Le Moyne College men's lacrosse team clinched its 16th Northeast-10 Conference regular season championship with a 10-8 win over Saint Michael's College in NE10 action on Saturday morning at Duffy Field.

The Purple Knights opened the game's scoring at the 9:50 mark as Justin Richmond tallied his second goal of the year.

The Dolphins answered with a pair of goals. Sophomore midfielder Matt Hutchings (Marcellus, N.Y./Marcellus) evened the score with 8:18 left after taking a feed from sophomore attackman Jake Lewis (Cazenovia, N.Y./Cazenovia/Cleveland State). In transition after freshman defender Connor Haims (Pittsford, N.Y./Pittsford Mendon) caused a turnover at the end of a 6-on-4 situation, junior short-stick defensive midfielder Andrew French (Syracuse, N.Y./Westhill) sent a pass to senior attackman Justin Kesselring (Fairport, N.Y./Fairport), who tallied his 33rd goal of the year with 1:35 remaining.

Saint Michael's knotted the score at two with three seconds left in the quarter as Jon Lockwood picked up a loose ball and fired a shot into the net for his 15th goal of the year.

Le Moyne scored the only two goals of the second quarter to take a 4-2 lead into the intermission. Midway through the quarter, freshman attackman Ben McCreary (Cicero, N.Y./Christian Brothers Academy) tallied his seventh goal of the campaign to give the Dolphins the lead for good. Sophomore midfielder Ross Filtch (Marcellus, N.Y./Marcellus/Siena) doubled the lead with 5:26 left off a feed from senior attackman Greg White (Buffalo, N.Y./Nichols School).

The Dolphins scored six times in the third quarter to take a 10-2 lead. Andrews started the run with his 21st goal of the season with 12:43 to go. White followed 68 seconds later with his 17th marker of the year. Kesselring netted his team-best 34th goal of the campaign with 7:13 remaining after collecting a pass from Andrews. Following a failed clear by the Purple Knights, Filtch finished off a feed from Andrews with 3:23 left. Lewis extended the lead to 9-2 with 1:49 to go in the quarter with his 13th goal after taking a feed from Kesselring. Andrews capped the streak with his 22nd goal with 40 seconds left.

Saint Michael's started its comeback by getting a goal from Richmond at the buzzer.

The Purple Knights cut their final deficit to just two with all five of the fourth quarter's goals. Connor McGuirk tallied the first goal of the quarter with 10:04 left after taking a pass from Charlie Murphy. Alec Sharlow followed at the 8:45 mark with his 15th goal of the season. McGuirk netted his fifth goal of the year with 6:00 to play. Murphy reversed roles with McGuirk with 3:27 left to score his ninth goal of the campaign and get Saint Michael's within 10-7. Lockwood registered the game's final goal in an extra-man situation with 25 seconds left after collecting a feed from Murphy, who then had a chance to make it 10-9 with 15 seconds left, but his shot hit the post.

Redshirt junior goalkeeper Jack Sweeney (Syracuse, N.Y./Westhill/Onondaga C.C.) made five saves (against four goals), including three in the first quarter, over two stints between the pipes totaling 46:35 to earn his 10th win of the year.
