Syracuse, N.Y. – Three Dolphins each recorded four points to lead the top-ranked Le Moyne College men's lacrosse team to an 11-8 victory over eighth-ranked Pace University in Northeast-10 Conference action on Saturday afternoon at Ted Grant Field.
Pace started the game's scoring just over five minutes into the contest as Kevin Vogelsberg tallied his sixth goal of the season after collecting an errant shot.
The Dolphins answered with a pair of goals in a span of 39 seconds to take the lead. Sophomore midfielder
Ross Filtch (Marcellus, N.Y./Marcellus/Siena) fired home his 10th goal of the season at the 9:10 mark, just 35 seconds after Vogelsberg scored. Following a restart of a missed shot, freshman attackman
Devin Andrews (Canandaigua, N.Y./Canandaigua Academy/Stony Brook) finished off a pass from senior attackman
Justin Kesselring (Fairport, N.Y./Fairport) with 8:31 remaining.
Vogelsberg registered a rebound goal only seven seconds later after faceoff specialist Steven Weindler had his shot blocked.
The Dolphins scored the final two goals of the opening quarter to take the lead for good. Andrews put his team in front by netting his 16th goal of the season after taking a feed from junior midfielder
Dan Entenmann (Auburn, N.Y./Auburn) in an extra-man opportunity with 6:19 left. Filtch doubled Le Moyne's lead with an unassisted tally with 2:07 remaining.
Sophomore midfielder
Matt Hutchings (Marcellus, N.Y./Marcellus) extended the lead to 5-2 at the 13:39 mark of the second quarter with his 11th goal of the season.
The Setters got back within two at the 9:30 mark as Bradley Paterson netted a rebound goal.
Le Moyne scored twice within 46 seconds to push its lead to 7-3. Andrews scored with 8:13 left in the half after collecting a feed from Hutchings, who then netted an extra-man goal off a pass from Kesselring with 7:27 to go.
Joseph Diggle completed the scoring in the first half with his ninth goal of the year with 3:29 to go.
The Dolphins regained their four-goal lead at the 12:17 mark of the third quarter as senior attackman
Greg White (Buffalo, N.Y./Nichols School) tallied his 11th goal of the campaign.
Diggle got the Setters back within three with 8:31 remaining in the quarter.
After Hutchings had a rebound goal with 4:27 left after Andrews had a shot saved, the Setters scored twice in the last three minutes of the quarter to trim their deficit to just two. Ryan O'Hagan scored with 2:44 to go and then Paterson had a put-back goal at the 44-second mark in a 30-second timer on situation.
Kesselring started the scoring in the fourth quarter with his 26th goal of the season at the 13:49 mark from the left alley.
Paterson answered back with an extra-man goal with 8:17 to play.
In a 30-second timer on situation, Kesselring ended the game's scoring with 6:17 left with a shot from the edge of the crease after quick passes from White and Andrews, who was credited with the assist on the goal.
Junior goalkeeper
Kyle Lumpe (Greenlawn, N.Y./Harborfields) registered his fourth straight victory after making seven saves, including three in the second quarter. Robert Beshlian turned away 10 shots, including four in the second quarter, in the loss for the Setters.
Le Moyne (10-0, 6-0 NE10) is back in action on Wednesday at The College of Saint Rose.
