Syracuse, N.Y. – Nadia Havens in a crossing pass in the 79th minute to give Stonehill College a 3-2 victory over the Le Moyne College women's soccer team on Saturday afternoon in Northeast-10 Conference action at Ted Grant Field.
Stonehill opened the game's scoring less than two and one-half minutes into the contest. Nicole Geraghty sent a cross to the top of the goal box, where Camryn Thompson was able to fire a shot off the bottom of the crossbar and into the net at the 2:25 mark for her fifth goal of the season.
Le Moyne evened the score just under the 16-minute mark. From 30 yards out in the center of the field, freshman midfielder
Ali Greco (Niskayuna, N.Y./Niskayuna) registered her first collegiate goal.
The Skyhawks regained the lead just over four minutes later. Off a cross from the right side by Alex Giardina, Nicole Garfield netted her third goal of the year at the 20:07 mark from the top of the goal box.
The Dolphins had the final two shots of the first half, but both were saved by goalkeeper Kaitlin Brown.
Le Moyne tied the score for the second time with 38:21 remaining in regulation. After Brown punched out a crossing attempt from the right side, sophomore forward
Lauren Myers (Vestal, N.Y./Vestal) knocked the rebound into the back of the net for her first career goal.
After almost 27 minutes of play without a shot, the Skyhawks scored the game-winning goal. Elizabeth Nerger crossed the ball from the left corner in front of the net, where Havens was able to head it in from the goal line for her first goal of the campaign.
Le Moyne had a shot in the 84th minute, but it went wide right of the goal.
Senior goalkeeper
Anastasija Cumika (Riga, Latvia/Riga Kengarags/West Florida) suffered the loss after making one save. Brown finished with two saves in the win. Each team took six shots, including four each in the first half, while Stonehill posted a 6-5 edge in corner kicks.
Le Moyne (2-3, 0-3 NE10), which has allowed 11 goals during its three-game losing streak, concludes its non-conference schedule on Wednesday at #8 nationally-ranked Mercy College at 4:00 p.m.
