EIGHTH-RANKED MERCY RALLIES IN SECOND HALF FOR 2-1 WIN OVER WOMEN’S SOCCER

Dobbs Ferry, N.Y. – Anicia Reyes scored the go-ahead goal 10 minutes into the second half as eighth-ranked Mercy College rallied for a 2-1 win over the Le Moyne College women's soccer team on Wednesday afternoon in non-conference action at Mercy Field.

Following nine combined shots over the opening 24 minutes, including three on target, the Dolphins struck for the game's first goal. Off a pass from sophomore back Maria Morotti (Little Falls, N.Y./Little Falls), freshman Lexi Aquilino (Depew, N.Y./Depew) chipped the ball over the keeper at the 25:25 mark for her first career goal.

The Dolphins put two more shots on goal over the final 18 minutes of the half, but could not add to their lead.

Following one Le Moyne save and two Mercy saves in the opening three and one-half minutes of the second half, the Mavericks evened the score at one apiece. Off a corner kick by Natalia Elizarraras, RaeAnn Ioannou headed the ball into the net at the 52:03 mark for her first goal of the season.

The Mavericks took the lead less than three minutes later. Off a throughball from Claudia McKail, Reyes sent a shot into the lower left corner of the net at the 54:58 mark for her third tally of the campaign.

The Dolphins had one shot over the final 35 minutes of the game, but it was wide right.

Senior goalkeeper Anastasija Cumika (Riga, Latvia/Riga Kengarags/West Florida) registered four saves, including three in the second half, in the setback. Melissa Torres tallied six saves, including four in the first half, to earn the victory between the pipes. Mercy recorded a 16-12 advantage in shots, including 10-3 in the second half, while posting a 5-3 edge in corner kicks, including both in the second half.

Le Moyne (2-4), which has fallen to the Mavericks by one goal in three of the last four years, returns home to face the University of New Haven on Saturday at 1:30 p.m.
