MEN’S SOCCER DOWNS JEFFERSON IN HOME OPENER, 5-1

Syracuse, N.Y. – Three Dolphins each had a part in two goals as the Le Moyne College men's soccer team registered a 5-1 victory over Jefferson (Philadelphia University + Thomas Jefferson University) in non-conference action on Sunday afternoon at Ted Grant Field.

The Dolphins opened the game's scoring just under 17 minutes into the contest. After carrying the ball down the right side, sophomore midfielder Joe Falcone (Manlius, N.Y./Fayetteville-Manlius) crossed the ball in front of the net. Freshman midfielder Dan Chilbert (Liverpool, N.Y./Liverpool) ran on to the ball and sent a shot into the middle of the net from six yards out for his first career goal.

Le Moyne doubled its lead just past the 21-minute mark. Off a give-and-go pass with Chilbert at the top left corner of the penalty box, junior forward Salar Faryar (Frankfurt, Germany/Max-Eyth Schule) banged a shot off the far right post and into the net from the left corner of the goal box for his second goal of the campaign. With the goal, the 23rd of his career, Faryar moved into 16th place on the program's career points list with 50.

The Dolphins extended their lead to 3-0 in the 31st minute. Sophomore back Brent McKeown (Burlington, Vt./Rice/Hartwick) carried the ball down the right side before crossing the ball in front of the net. Graduate student forward Marek Weber (Fulda, Germany/Sportgymnasium Jena/Goethe-University Frankfurt) raced in and drilled a shot under the crossbar from the top of the goal box at the 30:39 mark for his first tally of the year.

The Rams, who won the regular season title in the Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference last year by going 10-1-1 as part of a 15-5-1 season, answered back just 63 seconds later. After a crossing pass from the left side was punched out by the goalkeeper, Ian Lake blasted the loose ball inside the right post from 25 yards out on the right side.

Le Moyne regained its three-goal lead midway through the second half. Off a throw-in from the right side by Falcone, sophomore back Patrick Strauss (Lakewood, Ohio/St. Ignatius) towards the left post from the middle of the goal box. Junior midfielder Pablo Fernandez (Aviles, Spain/Real Oviedo) got to the loose ball near the goal line and tapped it in at the 70:41 mark for his first goal of the year.

The Dolphins completed the game's scoring with just under eight minutes to play. Off a cross from the right side by freshman midfielder Noah Moothedan (Lutz, Fla./Steinbrenner), Weber scored his 20th goal as a Dolphin from just outside the goal line.

Redshirt freshman goalkeeper Josh Mahr (Fayetteville, N.Y./Fayetteville-Manlius) earned his second win of the season after making one save. Andrew Menjivar took the loss for the Rams after making three saves. The Dolphins posted an 11-5 advantage in shots, including 6-3 in the first half, while taking five of the game's eight corner kicks.

Le Moyne (2-0), which faced the Rams for the first time in the program's history, concludes non-conference play on Saturday at home against Daemen College at 12:00 p.m.
