FALCONE GIVES MEN’S SOCCER 3-2 WIN OVER DAEMEN IN DOUBLE OVERTIME

Syracuse, N.Y. – Sophomore midfielder Joe Falcone (Manlius, N.Y./Fayetteville-Manlius) scored midway through the second overtime period to give the Le Moyne College men's soccer team a 3-2 victory over Daemen College on Saturday afternoon at Ted Grant Field.
The Dolphins opened the scoring just under 24 minutes into the contest. After senior midfielder Sam Daniel (Bonnyrigg, Scotland/Lasswade/University of Mobile) slipped a pass from the middle of the penalty box towards the right side of the box, junior forward Salar Faryar (Frankfurt, Germany/Max-Eyth Schule) centered the ball into the goal box. Second-year graduate student forward Marek Weber (Fulda, Germany/Sportgymnasium Jena/Goethe-University Frankfurt) ran on to the ball and slid a shot into the net from three yards out for his third goal of the season.

Daemen knotted the score at one just over six and one-half minutes into the second half. From the right side, Joe Keem crossed the ball into the goal box. Finn Krueger got to the ball in space and tapped it into the goal at the 51:31 mark for his first marker of the season.

Le Moyne regained the lead just 84 seconds later. In the game for just 27 seconds, freshman midfielder Noah Moothedan (Lutz, Fla./Steinbrenner) crossed the ball into the goal box from the right sideline. Faryar charged in and headed the ball into the back of the net from four yards out at the 52:55 mark for his third tally of the season.

The Wildcats evened the score for the second time with just over 27 minutes remaining. Off a cross from the left side by Giacomo Bacigalupo, Krueger used his chest to record his second goal of the day from the near left post three yards out.

The Dolphins had a pair of chances to score in the final 30 seconds, but were unable to. Sophomore back Robert Rohrhirsch (Garching bei München, Germany/Werner-Heisenberg-Gymnasium Garching/Munich University of Applied Sciences) had a shot saved by goalkeeper Phillipp Schmidt with 28 seconds later and then Faryar had a backwards shot turned away at the goal line by Bacigalupo.

After a scoreless first overtime period, the Dolphins scored the game-winner midway through the second overtime period. Off a give-and-go pass inside the penalty box from junior midfielder Pablo Fernandez (Aviles, Spain/Real Oviedo), Falcone slotted the ball into the lower right side of the net from 12 yards out at the 105:16 mark for his first goal of the season.

Junior goalkeeper Jerry Lewandowski (Clifton Park, N.Y./Shenendehowa), who made his collegiate debut, earned the victory between the pipes after making three saves. Schmidt recorded six saves in the loss for the Wildcats. Le Moyne finished the contest with a 12-10 advantage in shots, including both of the shots in overtime, while posting a 5-4 edge in corner kicks.

Le Moyne (2-0), which improved to 7-0 all-time against Daemen, opens Northeast-10 Conference action on Tuesday at Franklin Pierce University at 7:00 p.m.
