West Haven, N.Y. – Junior forward
Salar Faryar (Frankfurt, Germany/Max-Eyth Schule) scored a pair of goals to lead the Le Moyne College men's soccer team to a 3-0 victory over the University of New Haven in Northeast-10 Conference action on Saturday afternoon at Kathy Zolad Stadium.
The Dolphins scored the only goal they would need just over 11 minutes into the game. After a long pass up the field, Faryar collected the ball, cut to the top of the penalty box from the right and ripped a left-footed shot into the lower right corner of the net at the 11:04 mark for his eighth goal of the year.
Le Moyne doubled its lead in the 33rd minute. After a free kick from the right side was punched out, freshman midfielder
Dan Chilbert (Liverpool, N.Y./Liverpool) collected the ball just outside the top of the penalty box and fired a pass to the top of the goal box, where second-year graduate student forward
Marek Weber (Fulda, Germany/Sportgymnasium Jena/Goethe-University Frankfurt) was able to corral the ball in open space and tuck a shot into the left side of the net at the 32:34 mark for his sixth tally of the campaign, tied for the third-most in the conference. Weber and Faryar are the only duo in the conference with at least six goals each.
The Chargers had a scoring opportunity in the 43rd minute following a foul by the Dolphins outside the penalty box, but their shot was corralled by redshirt freshman goalkeeper
Josh Mahr (Fayetteville, N.Y./Fayetteville-Manlius).
After the Dolphins had four shots saved over the opening 33 minutes of the second half, Le Moyne finished off the game's scoring in the 82nd minute. Faryar collected a pass 45 yards out and carried the ball up field before encountering the goalkeeper 15 yards out and knocking a shot off the left post and into the net for his ninth goal of the year, the second-most in the NE10.
Mahr finished the game with three saves to earn his fifth win and third shutout of the year. Justin Dansereau posted five saves in the loss for New Haven. Le Moyne registered a 13-8 advantage in shots, including 8-4 in the second half, while New Haven took five of the game's seven corner kicks.
Le Moyne (6-1, 3-1 NE10), which has outscored the Chargers, 25-0, over 11 games since New Haven joined the NE10 in 2008, is back on the road on Tuesday at Assumption College at 4:00 p.m.
