22ND-RANKED MEN'S SOCCER SCORES THREE TIMES IN SECOND HALF TO DEFEAT MERRIMACK, 3-2

Syracuse, N.Y. – Second-year graduate student forward Marek Weber (Fulda, Germany/Sportgymnasium Jena/Goethe-University Frankfurt) scored twice in the second half to lead the 22nd-ranked Le Moyne College men's soccer team to a 3-2 come-from-behind win over Merrimack College in Northeast-10 Conference action on Saturday afternoon at Ted Grant Field.

Merrimack opened the game's scoring by finding the back of the net on the first shot of the contest. On a free kick from just outside the top left corner of the penalty box, Filippo Begliardi Ghidini drilled the ball inside the left post at the 11:11 mark for his third goal of the season.

The Warriors had five of the six shots over the 30 minutes of the first half, but neither team was able to score.

After each team had one shot in the opening six minutes of the second half, the Dolphins netted the equalizer. Off a pass from midfield by redshirt junior back Brendan McGee (Schenectady, N.Y./Guilderland), Weber collected the ball on the left side of the goal box and was able to fire a shot inside the left post from two yards out at the 54:59 mark for his seventh goal of the season.

Following a shot out of play by Merrimack, the Dolphins countered with the go-ahead goal. Sophomore back Brent McKeown (Burlington, Vt./Rice/Hartwick) played a long pass up the right side. Junior forward Salar Faryar (Frankfurt, Germany/Max-Eyth Schule) was able to get to the ball first, carried it into the penalty box and sent a shot from 12 yards out into the lower left corner of the net for his team-best 10th goal of the season at the 63:11 mark. Faryar, who scored 14 goals as a freshman, is the seventh player in the program's history to have multiple 10-goal seasons and he is the first Dolphin to do it since Scott Newman '05 had 14 in each of 2003 and 2004. The goal gives Faryar 31 goals and 68 points in his 48-game career. He moved into a tie for eighth place with Ed Kogut '83 on the program's all-time goals scored chart and took sole possession of ninth place on the program's career points list.

The Dolphins extended their lead to 3-1 in the 70th minute. Off a cross from 30 yards out on the right side of the field by sophomore midfielder Robert Rohrhirsch (Garching bei München, Germany/Werner-Heisenberg-Gymnasium Garching/Munich University of Applied Sciences), Weber headed the ball into the right side of the goal from eight yards out at the 69:31 mark for his eighth tally of the campaign.

Merrimack trimmed its deficit back to one just over three minutes later. After taking a pass just outside the goal box on the left side, Ghidini evaded two defenders and sent a shot inside the right post at the 72:39 mark for his fourth goal of the season.

The Warriors pressured the Le Moyne defense, but were unable to get a shot off over the final 17 minutes of the game.

Redshirt freshman goalkeeper Josh Mahr (Fayetteville, N.Y./Fayetteville-Manlius) earned his sixth win of the season after making two saves. Tyler Packett made two saves also in his second loss of the campaign. Merrimack posted a 10-8 edge in shots, including 6-1 in the first half, while Le Moyne took the only two corner kicks of the game.

Le Moyne (7-2, 4-2 NE10), which snapped a four-game losing streak to the Warriors when yielding multiple goals, hosts The College of Saint Rose on Wednesday at 3:00 p.m.
