WOMEN’S SOCCER EDGED IN OVERTIME BY 16TH-RANKED ADELPHI, 2-1

Garden City, N.Y. - Kerianne Scorce netted the tying and game-winning goals to lead 16th-ranked Adelphi University to a 2-1 overtime win over the Le Moyne College women's soccer team on Saturday afternoon at Motamed Field in Northeast-10 Conference action.

In the scoreless first half, Adelphi registered an 11-2 advantage in shots, including a 5-1 edge in shots on goal.

After each team put two shots on goal in the opening 25 minutes of the second half, the Dolphins struck for the game's first goal. Off a loose ball at the top of the penalty box, sophomore forward Elizabeth Maguire (Saratoga Springs, N.Y./Saratoga Springs) blasted a shot into the back of the net at the 71:52 mark for her third goal of the season.

The Panthers answered back just 47 seconds later with the tying goal. Amanda Rainey sent a pass from the right side of the penalty box to Scorce, who collected the ball nine yards out, spun to her left and sent a shot inside the near left post from six yards out at the 72:39 mark for her seventh tally of the year.

Adelphi had two chances to win the game in the final seconds of regulation, but the first shot hit the crossbar with four seconds left and the ensuing rebound attempt went high as time expired.

Off a throw-in from the left side, Scorce gained control of the ball on the left edge of the penalty box. She carried the ball to the top of the box before moving towards the center and firing a shot inside the far right post with 54 seconds left in the first overtime period.

Senior goalkeeper Anastasija Cumika (Riga, Latvia/Riga Kengarags/West Florida) registered seven saves in the loss, including five in the first half. Sarah Hofmeier turned away four shots in the win for the Panthers, including three in the second half. Adelphi finished the game with a 23-7 advantage in shots and took all five of the game's corner kicks.

Le Moyne (3-6, 1-5 NE10) are on the road again Tuesday at American International College at 7:00 p.m.
