Rindge, N.H. – Falu Seck scored 18 points in the second half to lead Franklin Pierce University to a 75-56 victory over the Le Moyne College men's basketball team in Northeast-10 Conference action on Saturday afternoon at The Fieldhouse.
Le Moyne, which suffered its first double-digit loss in conference action in 50 games (February 20, 2016 at Southern Connecticut State), was led offensively by junior guard
Ryan Roland (Syracuse, N.Y./Westhill/Mercyhurst), who tallied 12 points, including eight in the first half. Junior forward
Tom Brown (Ellicott City, Md./Centennial) was the only other Dolphin in double digits with 10 points, eight of which came in the second half.
Seck, who finished the contest with a game-high 22 points, hit 7-of-9 shots in the second half, including 4-of-5 from three-point range. Doyin Fadojutimi tallied 12 of his 21 points in the second half, while grabbing six rebounds and dishing out four assists. Isaiah Moore posted 11 points as the third Raven in double figures.
The Dolphins opened the game with the first five points and eight of the first 10 over the initial 2:49. Sophomore guard
Tim Leavell (Marion, Ind./Marion/State Fair C.C.) and Roland drained three-pointers around a lay-up by redshirt junior guard
Malik Garner (Midland, Mich./H.H. Dow/Sunrise Christian Academy/Saginaw Valley State).
Franklin Pierce answered with 10 of the next 12 points to take its first lead of the game. Seck started the run with a lay-up and Jeremy Arthur followed with back-to-back three-pointers to tie the score. Sam van Oostrum then made a lay-up for the lead.
Following a 7-2 spurt by the Dolphins to regain a three-point lead, the Ravens rattled off 12 consecutive points over 5:18. Fadojutimi started the streak with a pair of three-pointers, Seck and Jameson Pierrelus made lay-ups and then Fadojutimi converted a lay-up for a 26-17 lead with 4:08 left in the half.
Le Moyne closed out the half with 10 of the last 11 points to even the score at 27 at halftime. Junior guard
Wyatt Self (Davidson, N.C./Pine Lake Prep/Elev8 Sports Institute/Campbell) ignited the run with a three-pointer, Roland followed with a jumper in the paint and then Self drained another three-pointer to pull the Dolphins within 26-25. After Fadojutimi made a foul shot, senior guard
C.J. Asuncion-Byrd (Greenwich, Conn./Greenwich/St. Thomas More/Gannon) ended the half's scoring with a lay-up with 1:05 to go.
Franklin Pierce opened the second half with 16 of the first 20 points to take control of the game. Seck started the half with a three-pointer and Fadojutimi followed with a three-pointer and a free throw on the next possession to give the Ravens a 34-29 lead. After Fadojutimi and Brown traded lay-ups, Moore buried a three-pointer and made a lay-up to extend the lead to double-digits. Seck then capped the streak with a fast-break lay-up with 15:22 left in the game.
After Sean Fasoyiro made a lay-up for a 47-34 lead with 14:18 to play, the Dolphins scored six straight points to get back within seven. The run included lay-ups by Asuncion-Byrd, graduate student forward
Necdet Gurkan (Ankara, Turkey/Cumhuriyet Anadolu Lisesi/Saint Leo) and Brown.
The Ravens pushed their lead back to 10 on a pair of occasions before the Dolphins embarked on an 11-4 run to close within one possession. Gurkan banked in a three-pointer and Asuncion-Byrd and Roland followed with lay-ups. After a fast-break dunk by Seck, Roland had a fast-break lay-up and Garner converted a lay-up to get the Dolphins within 56-53 with 6:43 left, but that's as close as they would get.
Franklin Pierce responded with a 19-3 run, including the final 11 points of the game. Seck drilled back-to-back three-pointers to ignite the streak. Following three points by the Dolphins around a Franklin Pierce lay-up, Moore and Seck made lay-ups, Seck connected on his fourth three-pointer of the half, Arthur made a lay-up and then Lolami Lola-Charles finished off the scoring with a dunk.
Le Moyne (7-6, 4-4 NE10) returns to action at home for the first time since December 8 on Tuesday to host Southern New Hampshire University at 7:00 p.m.
