10TH-RANKED BENTLEY HOLDS OFF MEN’S BASKETBALL, 66-58

Waltham, Mass. – Chris Hudson registered a double-double to lead 10th-ranked Bentley University to a 66-58 victory over the Le Moyne College men's basketball team in Northeast-10 Conference action on Wednesday evening at Barbara Stevens Court at the Dana Center.

Junior guard Ryan Roland (Syracuse, N.Y./Westhill/Mercyhurst) led the Dolphins offensively with a career high-tying 17 points, including 10 in the second half. Senior guard C.J. Asuncion-Byrd (Greenwich, Conn./Greenwich/St. Thomas More/Gannon) turned in 11 points and eight rebounds. Junior forward Tom Brown (Ellicott City, Md./Centennial) posted eight points, 10 rebounds and six assists.

Hudson registered a game-high 20 points, including 11 in the first half, and pulled down a game-best 14 rebounds, including 11 in the second half. Colton Lawrence posted 13 points and seven rebounds, while Ryan Richmond tallied 12 points, including 10 in the first half. Mason Webb also reached double digits with 10 points.

After the teams split the first 10 points of the game, Bentley scored 10 straight points to take control of the game. Webb broke the tie with a three-pointer, Hudson made a lay-up, Lawrence hit a three-pointer and Webb capped the streak with a basket in the paint with 13:20 to go.

Following back-and-forth play over the next three minutes, the Falcons scored eight consecutive points to take a game-high 17-point lead, 29-12, with 7:41 remaining in the stanza. Zach Gilpin and Hudson made three-pointers and then Hudson converted a lay-up.

Le Moyne answered with eight of the next 10 points to trim its deficit to 11 with 5:02 to go. Redshirt junior guard Oshea Gairey (Toronto, Ontario/St. John's Catholic Prep (Md.)/Simon Fraser) made a lay-up, Roland drilled a three-pointer and Brown answered a Richmond jumper with his second three-pointer of the half.

The teams traded points over the remainder of the half, which was capped by an Asuncion-Byrd three-pointer to get the Dolphins within 37-27 at halftime.

After Roland started the scoring in the second half to get the Dolphins within eight, the Falcons scored 11 of the next 14 points to double their margin. Hudson scored the first four points, Lawrence made a transition three-pointer, Jordan Mello-Klein followed with a fast-break lay-up and Richmond capped the run with a basket in the paint.

Le Moyne answered with an 11-5 run to close within 10 with 9:47 to play. Asuncion-Byrd tallied six of the points, Roland added a lay-up and redshirt junior guard Malik Garner (Midland, Mich./H.H. Dow/Sunrise Christian Academy/Saginaw Valley State) capped the run with a fast-break three-pointer.

Bentley countered with an 8-2 jaunt to regain its 16-point lead with 6:30 remaining. Hudson made two free throws and then Gilpin and Webb made three-pointers around a Brown lay-up.

The Dolphins made one last push with 11 of the next 12 points to close within six with 1:31 left in the contest. Junior guard Zay Jennings (Allentown, Pa./Allentown Central Catholic/Caldwell) made two foul shots and three straight shots in the paint to get the Dolphins within 62-53 with 2:33 to go. Roland then drained a three-pointer off a feed from Asuncion-Byrd.

The Falcons closed out the game with four of the last six points.

Le Moyne (7-5, 4-3 NE10), which has dropped six straight games to the Falcons, returns to the hardwood on Saturday at Franklin Pierce University at 2:00 p.m.
