Syracuse, N.Y. – Sophomore outside hitter
Mary Talty (Clifton Park, N.Y./Shenendehowa) recorded 11 kills to lead the Le Moyne College volleyball team to a 3-0 victory over Assumption College in Northeast-10 Conference action on Tuesday night at Ted Grant Court.
The Dolphins opened the match by steadily building a 16-8 lead in the first set before scoring six straight points. Following a 5-1 spurt by the Greyhounds, the Dolphins scored the last two points for a 25-13 win. Le Moyne tallied the first four points of the second set and nine of the first 10. After the Greyhounds got within 17-12, the Dolphins ran off six straight points and eight of the last 10 for a 25-14 victory. After Le Moyne scored the first five points of the third set, Assumption answered with five straight and seven of the next eight to take its first lead of the match. The Dolphins regained control with five consecutive points and eight of the next 10. Following a 4-0 spurt by the Greyhounds to get within 14-13, Le Moyne rattled off eight straight points and 11 of the last 13 to close out the match with a 25-15 win.
Talty hit .280 en route to her 11 kills as the only player in the match with double-digit kills. Senior middle blocker
Jacquelyne Ghindia (Mission Viejo, Calif./Santa Margarita) posted 11 points with seven kills, three service aces and one block, while adding four digs and two assists. Sophomore
Lexi Petraitis (Kings Park, N.Y./Kings Park) and freshman
Madeleine Kennedy (Chelsea, Mich./Chelsea) each recorded seven kills, while Petraitis hit .455 and Kennedy hit .316. Junior setter
Emily Yancone (Rochester, N.Y./Our Lady of Mercy) registered her third double-double of the season with 26 assists and a team-best 12 digs.
Tess Haller led the Assumption attack with four kills, while adding five digs and two block assists. Alexandra Krawczyk led the team defensively with 10 digs to go along with two service aces and two assists.
Le Moyne (7-6, 1-1 NE10), which won its home opener for the first time since 2016, remains home to host Southern Connecticut State University on Saturday at 12:00 p.m.
