VOLLEYBALL RALLIES TO DEFEAT SOUTHERN CONNECTICUT STATE, 3-1

Syracuse, N.Y. – Sophomore outside hitter Mary Talty (Clifton Park, N.Y./Shenendehowa) and freshman outside hitter Madeleine Kennedy (Chelsea, Mich./Chelsea) each landed 13 kills to lead the Le Moyne College volleyball team to a 3-1 win over Southern Connecticut State University in Northeast-10 Conference action at Ted Grant Court.

Southern Connecticut State opened the match with a 25-19 victory in the first set after using a 7-1 run midway through the set to take the lead. The Dolphins evened the match at one set apiece with a 25-19 win of their own in the second after running off seven straight points in the middle of the set. Le Moyne took a 2-1 lead in the match with a 25-22 victory in the third set after tallying six of the last eight points following a 4-0 spurt by the Owls to take their last lead. The Dolphins rebounded from a 15-8 deficit in the fourth set, including the final five points, to close out the match with a 25-20 win.

Talty registered seven of her 13 kills on eight attempts in the fourth set. Kennedy recorded three kills in each of the first three sets before landing four in the fourth set. Senior middle blocker Jacquelyne Ghindia (Mission Viejo, Calif./Santa Margarita) posted a match-best nine kills over the opening two sets, including five on sixth attempts in the second, while adding two assists and two digs. Junior setter Emily Yancone (Rochester, N.Y./Our Lady of Mercy) tallied her second straight double-double with 41 assists and 15 digs, while adding a season-high five kills and two blocks. Sophomore libero Emily Mosack (Webster, N.Y./Webster-Schroeder) led the Dolphins defensively with a match-high 16 digs.

Ella White led the Owls in the setback with 14 points on 11 kills, three blocks and one service ace. Abigail Epstein hit .409 en route to landing 11 kills, while adding two service aces. Gabriela Gaibur was the third Owl with double-digit kills with 10 on a .333 hitting percentage. Tea Carter dished out 36 assists and posted seven digs, two kills and two service aces. Jillian Chambers led the defense with 13 digs.
 
Le Moyne (8-6, 2-1 NE10) returns to action with a tri-match on Saturday at the University of New Haven. The Dolphins face the Chargers at 12:00 p.m. and take on Mercy College at 2:30 p.m.
