LONCZAK EARNS 100TH VICTORY AS WOMEN’S TENNIS DEFEATS AMERICAN INTERNATIONAL, 7-0

Springfield, Mass. – Le Moyne College head coach Jeff Lonczak '03 earned his 100th career coaching victory as the Dolphins' women's team defeated American International College, 7-0, on Tuesday afternoon in Northeast-10 Conference action at the Forest Park Tennis Courts. Lonczak, in his fifth season in charge of the men's and women's teams, has 56 wins with the women and 44 with the men.
 
The Dolphins won the second and third positions to claim the point in the doubles competition. At the second spot, juniors Marta Nunez (Rye, N.Y./Antonio Lopez (Spain)) and Rebecca Peters (Auburn, N.Y./Auburn/Cayuga C.C.) won their third straight match, 6-1, over Jordyn Isaac and Sophie Roberge. Sophomore Brooke Fernandez (Shirley, N.Y./William Floyd) and junior Maggie Scanlon (Orchard Park, N.Y./Nardin Academy) won their first match as a team, 6-0, over Melissa Feilen and Nichara Condo at the third position to clinch the point. At the first position, Meritxell Jimeno-Vicente and Mikaela Johnson prevented the sweep with a 6-3 win over sophomore Birdem Oz (Istanbul, Turkey/TED Ankara College Foundation HS) and freshman Francesca Lilliegren (Guayaquil, Ecuador/Colegio Alemán Humboldt Guayaquil).
 
The Dolphins won all 12 sets in the singles competition for the 7-0 win. In her season debut, Scanlon swept Condo, 6-0, 6-0, at the sixth spot. Sophomore Brianna Laureti (Oneida, N.Y./Oneida) also posted back-to-back 6-0 scores in her season debut over Feilen at the fifth position. Freshman Marta Perez (Vigo, Spain/Northside Christian School (Fla.)) improved to 7-0 in dual matches with a 6-0, 6-0 victory at the fourth spot against Isaac to clinch the match for the Dolphins. Peters moved to 3-0 in NE10 action by defeating Roberge at the third position, 6-1, 6-0. Oz tallied her ninth victory of the campaign by downing Jimeno-Vicente, 6-1, 6-0, at the top spot. Nunez closed out the match with the tightest contest of the afternoon, topping Johnson at the second position, 7-6 (7-5), 7-6 (7-5).
 
Le Moyne (7-0, 5-0 NE10) starts a four-match homestand on Saturday by hosting the University of New Haven at the Skytop Tennis Courts at 11:00 a.m.
