Pleasantville, N.Y. – Sandra Yang registered 19 kills to lead Pace University to a 3-2 come-from-behind victory over the Le Moyne College volleyball team in Northeast-10 Conference action on Saturday afternoon at the Goldstein Fitness Center.
The Setters opened the match with a 25-14 win in the first set, including scoring 10 of the last 12 points. The Dolphins answered back in the second set with a 25-19 win after scoring eight of the last 10 points following a tie at 17. Le Moyne overcame a 15-11 deficit in the third set and scored the last four points to take a 2-1 lead in the match with a 25-22 win. The Dolphins jumped out to a 7-1 in the fourth set, Pace answered with a 10-3 run to take the lead and then Le Moyne countered with an 8-1 jaunt to take another six-point lead. After Pace tied the score at 19, the Dolphins pushed out to leads of 22-19 and 23-20 before the Setters tallied the final five points to take the set, 25-23, and force the fifth set. Pace used a 4-0 spurt early in the fifth set en route to a 15-9 win in the set and 3-2 victory in the match.
Sophomore outside hitter
Mary Talty (Clifton Park, N.Y./Shenendehowa) led the Dolphins offensively with 17 kills, including five in the third set and four in each of the second and fourth sets. Junior setter
Emily Yancone (Rochester, N.Y./Our Lady of Mercy) directed the offense with 38 assists, while adding six digs, four kills and two blocks. Sophomore outside hitter
Kendyl Gorick (Windsor, N.Y./Windsor) was the team's defensive lead with 16 digs, including six in the third set. Sophomore libero
Emily Mosack (Webster, N.Y./Webster-Schroeder) tallied 14 digs, including seven in the third set, and recorded a career-high five service aces.
Yang tallied seven of her match-high 19 kills in the third set, while hitting at a .341 clip and adding six digs, four assisted blocks and three service aces. Brielle Jones registered 14 kills, including five in the first set, and seven digs. Tatjana Calimpong-Burke hit .360 en route to 12 kills, including four in the first set, while recording seven digs and seven blocks. Nicole Pivetti and Samantha Nidini split the setting duties with 29 and 21 assists, respectively, while Pivetti added 12 digs. Danielle Vaiano led the Setters defensively with 24 digs, including eight in the third set.
Le Moyne (10-7, 3-2 NE10) returns to action on Friday, hosting Stonehill College at 5:00 p.m.
