WOMEN’S SOCCER EDGED BY ADELPHI, 4-2

Syracuse, N.Y. – Alexsis Weiser and Erica Bleimeyer each scored twice to lead Adelphi University to a 4-2 win over the Le Moyne College women's soccer team in Northeast-10 Conference action on Wednesday afternoon at Ted Grant Field.

On their first shot of the game, the Panthers opened the contest's scoring. After collecting the ball near midfield, Weiser dribbled through the Le Moyne defense before netting her fourth goal of the season at the 5:07 mark from 15 yards out.

Adelphi took five shots the remainder of the half, only one of which was on target and it was saved.

The Dolphins took advantage of a misplay by Adelphi to even the score at one just over six minutes into the second half. After a Dolphin crossed the ball into the penalty box, an Adelphi defender tried to pass the ball to the goalkeeper with her body, but junior midfielder Elizabeth Maguire (Saratoga Springs, N.Y./Saratoga Springs) intercepted the pass and sent the ball into the back of the net at the 51:08 mark for her second goal of the season.

The Panthers regained the lead just over five minutes later after the Dolphins were whistled for a foul in the penalty box. Bleimeyer stepped up and buried the penalty kick at the 56:14 mark for her third marker of the season.

Adelphi doubled their lead in the 65th minute. Following a Le Moyne corner kick, Jacklyn Lada cleared the ball up field. Off a bounce, Weiser headed the ball forward, raced past a defender, dribbled around the goalkeeper and then scored into the empty net at the 64:20 mark for her team-best fifth goal of the season.

The Panthers completed their scoring in the 83rd minute. Kerianne Scorce carried the ball into the right side of the penalty box before centering the ball. Bleimeyer was able to chip the ball into the upper left corner of the net at the 82:14 mark for her fourth tally of the campaign.

Le Moyne cut its deficit to two with just over three minutes remaining. Following an Adelphi foul on the right side of the field, junior back Erica Wasserbach (Niskayuna, N.Y./Niskayuna) fired the free kick at the net. The goalkeeper was able to tip the ball off the crossbar, but sophomore midfielder Hannah Brown Trice (Seneca Falls, N.Y./Mynderse Academy) was able to get to the loose ball and head it into the net at the 86:46 mark for her second goal in two games.

Senior goalkeeper Shannon Bennison (Albany, N.Y./Guilderland) registered four saves, including three in the second half, in the setback. Krista Aliscio tallied three saves in the second half to earn the victory. Adelphi recorded a 16-7 advantage in shots, including 10-6 in the second half, while posting a 5-2 advantage in corner kicks.

Le Moyne (1-6-1, 0-4-1 NE10) remains home to host Southern Connecticut State University on Saturday at 11:00 a.m.
