Syracuse, N.Y. – Juliana Santos scored with just under seven minutes remaining to give Southern Connecticut State University a 1-0 victory over the Le Moyne College women's soccer team in Northeast-10 Conference action on Saturday at Ted Grant Field.
In the scoreless first half, each team registered five shots, while the Dolphins put four of their shots on target and the Owls only had one shot that required being saved.
The Dolphins recorded two shots in the opening 7:04 of the second half, but were unable to get a shot off the remainder of the half.
Following four shots in a span of six minutes, only one of which needed to be saved, the Owls tallied the only goal they would need in the 84th minute. After collecting the ball off a clearing attempt by the Dolphins, Santos chipped the ball towards the net. The ball was misplayed by Le Moyne and rolled across the goal line at the 83:10 mark for Santos' first goal of the season.
The Dolphins had a corner kick with 41 seconds remaining, but were unable to get off a shot.
Senior goalkeeper
Shannon Bennison (Albany, N.Y./Guilderland) recorded a save in each half in the setback. Allie Smith posted four saves in the first half to earn her fifth shutout of the season. The Owls registered a 10-7 advantage in shots, while posting a 4-3 edge in corner kicks.
Le Moyne (1-7-1, 0-5-1 NE10) returns to action on Tuesday at Assumption College at 3:00 p.m.
