Worcester, Mass. – Sydney Huckabee poked in a loose ball midway through the second half to lead Assumption College to a 2-1 victory over the Le Moyne College women's soccer team in Northeast-10 Conference action on Tuesday afternoon at the Multi-Sport Stadium.
After each team had a shot saved in the opening 12 minutes of the game, the Greyhounds started the scoring in the 15th minute. Off a pass from the right from Brooke Shatney, Alexis Stowell launched a shot from 30 yards out on the right side that hit off the bottom of the left goal post and into the back of the net at the 14:48 mark for her second goal of the season.
The Dolphins put three shots on goal over the final 21 minutes of the half, but were unable to even the score.
The Greyhounds doubled their lead in the 64th minute following a foul on the Dolphins along the right side. After the free kick landed in the goal box, Johnna Caporuscio put a shot on goal, but it was turned away by a Le Moyne defender. Huckabee then knocked the rebound into the left side of the net at the 63:40 mark for her first tally of the campaign.
After the Dolphins took the game's next four shots, including one on goal, they pulled within one in the 76th minute. Off a clearing attempt by the Greyhounds, sophomore midfielder
Lainey Foti (Syracuse, N.Y./Jamesville-DeWitt) intercepted the pass and went in one-on-one with the goalkeeper before slotting a shot into the net at the 75:31 mark for her first goal of the season.
Le Moyne registered six shots over the last 11 minutes of the game, including three on goal, but was unable to tie the score before the final whistle.
Senior goalkeeper
Shannon Bennison (Albany, N.Y./Guilderland) recorded five saves in the setback. Alexis Nason tallied eight saves, including four in each half, en route to the victory between the pipes. The Dolphins registered a 20-14 advantage in shots, including 13-6 in the second half, while each team took four corner kicks.
Le Moyne (1-8-1, 0-6-1 NE10) returns home to host Southern New Hampshire University on Saturday at 11:00 a.m.
