Garden City, N.Y. – The Le Moyne College women's tennis team earned its first berth in the Northeast-10 Conference Championship final with a 4-3 victory over top-seeded Adelphi University in the NE10 semifinals on Friday afternoon at the Adelphi Tennis Courts.
The Dolphins (13-3), who were appearing in the semifinals for the third consecutive year, will face third-seeded Stonehill College in the NE10 Championship match on Sunday at The Weymouth Club in Weymouth, Mass. at 10:00 a.m. The Skyhawks advanced to the final for the sixth straight season and the 13th time overall with a 4-1 win at second-seeded Southern New Hampshire University in today's other semifinal.
The Panthers, who won the regular season meeting between the teams, 4-1, took the first lead of the day by winning two of the three matches in the doubles competition. At the second position, Amanda Franstedt and Nicole Stay cruised to a 6-0 win over juniors
Marta Nunez (Rye, N.Y./Antonio Lopez (Spain)) and
Rebecca Peters (Auburn, N.Y./Auburn/Cayuga C.C.). The Dolphins evened doubles at one win apiece as freshman

Brooke Fernandez (Shirley, N.Y./William Floyd) recorded a 6-4 victory at the third spot over Lea Baschanow and Julia Kielan for their team-best 11th win of the year. Barbie Quagliardi and Nicole Kielan clinched the doubles point for the Panthers with a 6-4 win at the first position over sophomore
Birdem Oz (Istanbul, Turkey/TED Ankara College Foundation HS) and freshman
Francesca Lilliegren (Guayaquil, Ecuador/Colegio Alemán Humboldt Guayaquil).
For the second straight match, the Dolphins overcame a 1-0 deficit by winning four of the six matches in the singles competition. Oz evened the match at one apiece and collected her 15th win of the year with a 6-4, 6-0 victory at the first position over Quagliardi, the NE10 Player of the Year. Stay gave the lead back to the Panthers by defeating Peters at the fourth spot, 6-0, 6-4. The Dolphins tied the match at two as Nunez was a 7-5, 7-6 (7-2) winner at the second position over Nicole Kielan for her 13th victory of the campaign. After dropping the first set, 6-3, Lilliegren rallied for back-to-back 6-4 wins over Franstedt at the third spot to give the Dolphins a 3-2 lead in the match. Julia Kielan knotted the match at three apiece with a 6-2, 6-1 win at the sixth position over Fernandez. Perez clinched the victory for the Dolphins with her team-best 12th dual-match win of the year, 7-6 (7-3), 6-2, against Baschanow at the fifth spot.
