LATE RALLY NOT ENOUGH AS MEN’S SOCCER FALLS AT BENTLEY, 2-1

Waltham, Mass. – Julian Stewart scored a goal and had an assist to lead Bentley University to a 2-1 win over the Le Moyne College men's soccer team in Northeast-10 Conference play on Saturday afternoon at Bentley Field.

In the scoreless first half, the Dolphins registered a 7-3 advantage in shots, while each team had two shots saved.

After the Falcons had a shot saved and the Dolphins fired a shot off the crossbar over the first half of the second half, Bentley got on the scoreboard in the 69th minute. Off a cross by Colby Gould from the left wing into the box, Stewart volleyed the ball into the back of the net at the 68:22 mark for his third goal of the season.

The Falcons, who have won four of the last six meetings with the Dolphins (all four wins by a 2-1 score, three in Waltham), doubled their lead just over six minutes later. Off a feed from Stewart, Patrick McMahon netted his first goal of the season at the 74:37 mark from 12 yards out.

After the Dolphins had two shots saved over the next 10 minutes, the Dolphins cut their deficit in half with one minute remaining. Off a free kick from the right side by redshirt freshman midfielder Tom Henne (Hamburg, Germany/Gymnasium Buckhorn), sophomore forward Brandon Mimas (Baldwinsville, N.Y./C.W. Baker/UAlbany) tallied his third goal of the season at the 89:00 mark from inside the goal box.

The Dolphins were unable to get off another shot in the final 60 seconds.

Redshirt sophomore goalkeeper Josh Mahr (Fayetteville, N.Y./Fayetteville-Manlius) tallied four saves in suffering his third loss of the season. Nick Maldarella also posted four saves for the Falcons in the victory. Le Moyne finished the contest with a 15-8 advantage in shots, while posting an 8-3 edge in corner kicks.

Le Moyne (6-3, NE10), which drops to 0-3 on Saturdays this season, is back in action on Wednesday at The College of Saint Rose at 7:00 p.m.
