Albany, N.Y. – Filippo Bellu scored eight minutes into the second half to give The College of Saint Rose a 2-1 win over the Le Moyne College men's soccer team in Northeast-10 Conference action on Wednesday night at the Plumeri Sports Complex.
The Dolphins opened the game's scoring in the 10th minute. Junior midfielder
Robert Rohrhirsch (Garching bei München, Germany/Werner-Heisenberg-Gymnasium Garching/Munich University of Applied Sciences) dribbled the ball into the right side of the penalty box before sliding a pass to the middle of the box. Redshirt freshman midfielder
Tom Henne (Hamburg, Germany/Gymnasium Buckhorn) ran onto the ball and one-timed a shot that hit off the bottom of the crossbar and landed inside the goal line at the 9:20 mark for his first career goal.
Following a shot by each team over the next 30 minutes, the Golden Knights knotted the score at one apiece in the 41st minute. Andrew Lule dribbled from the left side, into the penalty box and then slotted a shot from just outside the top left corner of the goal into the right side of the netting at the 40:32 mark for his third tally of the season.
Saint Rose scored the game-winning goal just under eight minutes into the second half. Nick Koenig sent a pass from outside of the penalty box to the right side to Daniel Rechni, who crossed the ball in front of the net. From four yards out, Bellu was able to get his head on the ball just before the goalkeeper could punch it away to record his fourth goal of the campaign.
The Dolphins were only able to put one shot on goal the remainder of the half, but it was saved by the goalkeeper.
Redshirt sophomore goalkeeper
Josh Mahr (Fayetteville, N.Y./Fayetteville-Manlius) tallied six saves in the setback. Ryan Henning earned the victory and recorded two saves. Saint Rose registered a 14-7 advantage in shots, including 12-4 in the second half, while Le Moyne posted a 3-2 edge in corner kicks.
