New Haven, Conn. – Tomas Terrugi scored twice to lead Southern Connecticut State University to a 4-3 victory over the Le Moyne College men's soccer team in the Northeast-10 Conference regular season finale for both teams on Wednesday afternoon at Jess Dow Field.
With the setback, the Dolphins will be either the fourth or fifth seed in the NE10 Championships later this week depending on the result of tonight's Saint Rose at Adelphi matchup. The Dolphins will be the fourth seed and host Assumption College at 1:00 on Saturday if Adelphi wins or the game ends tied. The Dolphins will be the fifth seed and travel to Southern New Hampshire University on Saturday if Saint Rose wins.
Southern Connecticut took advantage of a Le Moyne foul in the eighth minute to start the game's scoring. Off a free kick by Ignasi Perez from the left side, Francisco Roldan was able to head the ball into the left side of the net from 12 yards out in the middle of the penalty box at the 7:56 mark for his fourth goal of the season.
The Dolphins answered back in the 21st minute to even the score at one. After receiving the ball down the left side, sophomore forward
Brandon Mimas (Baldwinsville, N.Y./C.W. Baker/UAlbany) faked out a defender on the left side of the penalty box before firing a shot inside the near left post at the 20:12 mark for his fourth tally of the campaign.
Just over three minutes later, the Dolphins took the lead. After collecting the ball on the right side of the penalty box, Mimas carried the ball towards the endline before sending a shot inside the far left post at the 23:18 mark for his fifth marker of the year.
The Owls had three shots saved over a span of 15 minutes before tying the game at two in the 44th minute. After an Owl had a shot blocked by a Le Moyne defender, Terrugi blasted a shot from outside the top of the penalty box off the far right post and into the net at the 43:18 mark for his second goal of the season.
Neither team took a shot the remainder of the half.
Southern Connecticut regained the lead following a Le Moyne foul in the penalty box. Terrugi stepped up and buried the penalty kick at the 51:25 mark for his third goal of the year.
The Owls extended their lead in the 61st minute. Off a feed from Devante Teixeira from the middle of the field, Blaise Haba collected the ball just outside the top of the penalty box and carried it to the top right corner of the goal box before sliding a shot into the left side of the net for his third goal of the season.
Le Moyne cut its deficit to one in the 77th minute following a foul on the Owls. Off a free kick from 26 yards out on the right side by redshirt freshman midfielder

Patrick Strauss (Lakewood, Ohio/St. Ignatius) was able to head the ball from the top left side of the goal box into the right side of the net at the 76:02 mark for his fourth tally of the campaign.
The Dolphins were only able to get off one shot the over the final 14 minutes, but it was wide.
Redshirt sophomore goalkeeper
Josh Mahr (Fayetteville, N.Y./Fayetteville-Manlius) recorded three first-half saves in the setback. Ian Shannon made one second-half save in the win. Southern Connecticut registered a 9-7 advantage in shots, including 6-3 in the first half, while each team took two corner kicks.
