VOLLEYBALL STAYS IN NE10 HUNT WITH 3-0 WIN OVER SAINT MICHAEL’S

Syracuse, N.Y. – Senior middle blocker Jacquelyne Ghindia (Mission Viejo, Calif./Santa Margarita) registered 10 kills to lead the Le Moyne College volleyball team to a 3-0 win over Saint Michael's College in Northeast-10 Conference action on Friday evening at Ted Grant Court.

The Purple Knights opened the match with the first four points before the Dolphins built a 14-11 lead. After Saint Michael's knotted the set at 14, the Dolphins scored seven straight points and 11 of the last 13 for a 25-16 win. Saint Michael's took a 3-1 lead in the second set before the Dolphins rattled off 15 of the next 18 points for a 16-6. After the score was 18-9, the Dolphins scored the last seven points of the set for a 25-9 win. After dropping the first point of the third set, the Dolphins scored six straight points and 16 of the next 19 to take a 16-4 advantage. Following three points from each team, the Dolphins closed out the match with six of the last seven points for a 25-8 victory.

Ghindia hit .714 in the match en route to her match-high 10 kills, which came without committing an error, while adding three blocks. Sophomore outside hitter Mary Talty (Clifton Park, N.Y./Shenendehowa) hit .438 with nine kills, including four in the first set. Junior setter Emily Yancone (Rochester, N.Y./Our Lady of Mercy) directed the offense with 24 assists to go along with seven digs. Senior libero Claire Hiwiller (North Tonawanda, N.Y./Sweet Home) registered a match-best 12 digs, including five in each of the second and third sets.

Grace Fornabia led the Purple Knights in the setback with five kills. London dished out 14 assists, while Sarah Scott and Tanner Barton had 11 and 10 digs, respectively.

Le Moyne (12-11, 5-6 NE10), which sits in eighth place in the NE10 standings with two matches left, is back in action on Saturday at 12:00 p.m. against Saint Anselm College.
