Liverpool, N.Y. – The Le Moyne College women's tennis team opened its Spring season with a 7-0 win over Daemen College on Saturday afternoon at Elevate Fitness.
The Dolphins opened the day by sweeping the doubles competition to take a 1-0 lead in the match. At the first position, sophomore
Marta Nunez (Rye, N.Y./Antonio Lopez (Spain)) and freshman
Birdem Oz (Istanbul, Turkey/TED Ankara College Foundation HS) recorded a 6-0 win over Christina Stasiuk and Jessica Robins. Sophomore
Camila Humala (Lima, Peru/Antonio Raimondi) and freshman
Brooke Fernandez (Shirley, N.Y./William Floyd) also were 6-0 winners over Sarah Kenny and Courtney Otis at the second spot. Freshman
Brianna Laureti (Oneida, N.Y./Oneida) and
Maggie Scanlon (Orchard Park, N.Y./Nardin Academy) claimed a 6-0 win as well over Alliya Foster and Ailish McDevitt at the third position.
Le Moyne won in straight sets in four of the six matches in the singles competition en route to the sweep. Nunez rallied to defeat Stasiuk at the first position, 4-6, 6-2, 11-9. Oz blanked Robins at the second spot, 6-0, 6-0. Humala earned her 10th dual match win of the season, 6-0, 6-2 over Kenny at the third position. Laureti recorded back-to-back 6-1 wins over Otis at the fourth spot to improve to 5-0 in dual matches. After recording a 6-0 win in the first set, Fernandez won by retirement over Foster at the fifth position. Scanlon was a 6-0, 6-2 winner at the sixth spot over Andrea D'Sa.
Le Moyne (13-5) concludes its road schedule on Sunday at Colgate University at 12:00 p.m.
