Philadelphia, Pa. – Chestnut Hill College won four singles matches en route to a 5-2 victory over the Le Moyne College men's tennis team on Saturday afternoon at the Chestnut Hill College Tennis Courts.
The Griffins took a 1-0 lead in the match by sweeping the doubles competition. At the top position, Tom Pitchley and Erik Jorsal registered a 6-4 win over sophomore
Tom Jarry (Paris, France/CNED Toulouse/Emmanuel) and junior
Philip Blythe (Edinburgh, Scotland/Merchiston). Antoine Gautier and Adam Gavin clinched the point for the Griffins with a 6-3 win at the second spot over seniors
Xavier Graells (Castellar del Vallès, Spain/IES Castellar/Harford Community College) and
Tyler Underwood (Minoa, N.Y./East Syracuse-Minoa). Jesus Darias and Kai Adler completed the sweep with a 6-2 win over senior
Andres Hernandez (Monterrey, Mexico/Laurel Springs/Texas Rio Grande Valley) and freshman
Gerardo Wibmer (Maldonado, Uruguay/Apostille School) at the third position.
Blythe evened the match at one apiece with back-to-back 6-1 wins at the second position over Darias. Adler regained the lead for the Griffins by defeating Graells at the fifth spot, 7-6 (7-4), 6-3. Gautier pushed the lead to 3-1 win consecutive 6-2 wins at the third position over Hernandez. Gavin clinched the match for his team by topping graduate student
Sven Gopfrich (Erlangen, Germany/Emmy-Noether-Gymnasium Erlangen/Friedrich-Alexander University Erlangen-Nürnberg), 6-3, 6-3, at the sixth spot. Jarry improved to 6-2 on the season by rallying to beat Pitchley at the first position, 6-7, 6-4, 10-7. Jorsal closed out the afternoon with a 6-0, 4-6, 6-3 win at the fourth spot over sophomore
Christian Erickson (Fairport, N.Y./Fairport).
Le Moyne (5-4) remains in Philadelphia to take on the University of the Sciences on Sunday at 12:00 p.m.
