SIXTH-RANKED MEN’S LACROSSE KNOCKS OFF PREVIOUSLY-UNBEATEN AND TOP-RANKED ADELPHI, 10-8

Garden City, N.Y. – Junior attackman Riley Larson (Fairfield, Conn./Ludlowe) tallied the game-winning goal midway through the fourth quarter as the sixth-ranked Le Moyne College men's lacrosse team upset previously-unbeaten and top-ranked Adelphi University, 10-8, in Northeast-10 Conference action on Saturday afternoon at Motamed Field.

The Dolphins scored all four of the goals in the first quarter. Following six minutes of scoreless action to start the game, senior midfielder Dan Entenmann (Auburn, N.Y./Auburn) tallied his 13th goal of the season. Just 20 seconds later, senior midfielder Ryan Cosgrove (Churchville, N.Y./Churchville-Chili) netted his 14th tally of the year. Another 20 seconds later, sophomore midfielder Kaiden Tubbert (Auburn, N.Y./Auburn) recorded his third goal of the year to force an Adelphi timeout. Freshman attackman Kevin Sheehan (Camillus, N.Y./West Genesee) closed out the scoring in the quarter with 2:24 left off a pass from Larson.

Adelphi got on the scoreboard off the initial faceoff of the second quarter. Phillip Brady won the faceoff and raced up field before flipping a pass to Gordon Purdie, Jr., who fired in his 14th goal of the year.

Le Moyne answered with the final four goals of the second quarter. Larson started the streak at the 14:20 mark with his 28th goal of the campaign off a feed from junior attackman Matt Hutchings (Marcellus, N.Y./Marcellus). Senior midfielder Josh Slowinski (Williamsville, N.Y./Clarence) made it 6-1 with 7:11 left after taking a pass from Entenmann, who moved into 10th place on the program's career assists chart with his 63rd helper. Hutchings recorded his 21st goal of the season with 5:55 remaining in the half. Entenmann capped the half's scoring with his 50th career goal with 4:26 left after receiving a pass from Hutchings.

The Panthers scored all five of the goals in the third quarter to close within two. After 5:20 of scoreless play to begin the half, Michael Osmundsen started Adelphi's comeback with his 22nd goal of the season off a pass from Nicolas Racalbuto in an extra-man situation. John Arcidiacono made it 8-3 with his 27th goal of the campaign with 4:45 left off a feed from Ian Kirby. In transition, long-stick Justin Napolitano tallied his second goal of the year with 2:58 remaining in the quarter. Racalbuto made it 8-5 with his 45th tally of the season with 58 seconds left in the quarter. Long-stick Sean McGovern got the Panthers within 8-6 with his fourth marker of the year with 15 seconds to go.

Adelphi extended its run to seven straight goals with the first two of the fourth quarter. James Hall tallied his ninth goal of the year with 13:00 remaining in the game. Kirby completed the comeback with 9:53 remaining with his 33rd goal of the campaign after taking a pass from Hall.

The Dolphins regained the lead with 8:09 remaining, snapping a scoring drought of 26:17. Off a restart of a missed shot, Hutchings sent a pass from the right corner in front of the net to Larson, who fired in his 29th goal of the season.

Each team put three shots on target over the next seven minutes, but the goalkeepers were able to make saves to keep the score at 9-8.

Following a save by junior goalkeeper Riley Smith (Baldwinsville, N.Y./C.W. Baker/Onondaga C.C.), Entenmann cleared the ball and the Dolphins called timeout with 1:08 remaining. After running 30 seconds off the clock, Hutchings sent a pass in front of the goal to sophomore attackman Devin Andrews (Canandaigua, N.Y./Canandaigua/Stony Brook), who flipped a shot into an empty net for his 18th goal of the campaign.

The Dolphins won the ensuing faceoff and ran the final 35 seconds off the clock.

Smith finished the game with a season high-tying 12 saves, including four in the fourth quarter, en route to his 11th win of the season. Brendan McDougal turned away 19 shots, including 11 in the first half, in the loss for the Panthers.
