VOLLEYBALL RALLIES FOR 3-1 WIN AT ROBERTS WESLEYAN

Rochester, N.Y. – Senior middle blocker Jacquelyne Ghindia (Mission Viejo, Calif./Santa Margarita) registered 12 kills to lead the Le Moyne College volleyball team to a 3-1 come-from-behind victory at Roberts Wesleyan College on Tuesday night at the Voller Athletic Center.

After the Dolphins jumped out to a 10-6 lead in the opening set, Roberts Wesleyan scored 11 of the next 12 points and then six of the last eight points en route to a 25-20 win. In the second set, the Redhawks opened with an 8-3 lead before the Dolphins countered with a 9-3 run to take the lead. The teams then went back and forth, with neither team taking more than a three-point lead before the Dolphins scored the final two points for a 27-25 win. Le Moyne scored the first five points of the third set and later used runs of 5-0 and 6-0 to take a 20-4 lead before closing out the set with a 25-8 win for a 2-1 lead in the match. The Dolphins jumped out to a 10-5 lead in the fourth set before the Redhawks countered with four straight points. Le Moyne answered with a 9-2 run en route to finishing off the set and the match with a 25-16 victory.

Ghindia hit a spectacular .647 en route to her 12 kills, five of which came in the fourth set, while adding four digs and three blocks. Sophomore outside hitter Mary Talty (Clifton Park, N.Y./Shenendehowa) recorded her third double-double of the season with 11 kills and 15 digs. Junior setter Emily Yancone (Rochester, N.Y./Our Lady of Mercy) posted her second double-double of the year with 14 digs and 12 assists, while adding three service aces. Freshman setter Margaret King (Penfield, N.Y./Penfield) turned in 18 assists and three services aces in her first career start. Sophomore libero Emily Mosack (Webster, N.Y./Webster-Schroeder) led the team defensively with 16 digs, including six in the second set, while adding seven assists.

Anastasia Smith led the Redhawks in the loss with 12 kills and six blocks. Emily Rowlison dished out 28 assists and recorded four kills, four service aces and four digs. Rachel Holmes led the Redhawks defensively with 19 digs, while Kathryn Krchniak turned in 11 digs and six kills.

Le Moyne (4-1), which has won straight matches over the Redhawks, is back in action on Friday at the Wilmington Wildcat Regional Invitational. The Dolphins face the host Wildcats at 1:00 p.m. and Georgian Court at 5:00 p.m.
