MEN’S BASKETBALL HAS SEVEN-GAME WIN STREAK SNAPPED BY STONEHILL, 80-69

Easton, Mass. – Will Moreton scored 25 points to lead Stonehill College to an 80-69 victory over the Le Moyne College men's basketball team in Northeast-10 Conference action at Merkert Gymnasium on Saturday afternoon.

Sophomore guard Nino Hernandez (Gardner, Mass./The Winchendon School/Bryant) led the Dolphins offensively in the setback with 23 points, including 12 in the second half. Senior guard Ryan Roland (Syracuse, N.Y./Westhill/Mercyhurst) was the only other Dolphin in double digits with 11 points, nine of which came in the second half. Senior forward Tom Brown (Ellicott City, Md./Centennial) pulled down a game-best 13 rebounds, including nine in the second half, and is now just one of two players in the NE10 averaging a double-double.

Moreton tallied 14 of his game-high point total in the first half, while adding eight rebounds and a pair of steals. Monty Urmilevicius, a teammate of Hernandez last year at Bryant University, scored a career-high 17 points, including 10 in the second half, and grabbed six rebounds. Owen Chose registered 14 second-half points, while Michael Boen totaled 11 rebounds.

The Dolphins opened the game with the first six points from three different players.

After Hernandez gave the Dolphins a 10-5 lead with 16:05 left, the Skyhawks scored seven straight points to take their first lead of the game with 12:30 remaining. Moreton bookended the run with baskets in the paint.

The teams then went back and forth the remainder of the half. The Skyhawks took a four-point lead with 8:42 left, while the Dolphins answered back with a 10-5 run to take the lead back. Five different Dolphins accounted for the 10 points.

After Brown put the Dolphins up 34-31 with 52 seconds left, Moreton knotted the score for the sixth time with a three-pointer of his own 20 seconds later.

Stonehill took the lead for good with the first seven points of the second half as Urmilevicius made a pair of lay-ups around a three-pointer by Chose.

Roland got the Dolphins within 48-45 with a three-pointer with 15:15 left, but Stonehill answered with nine straight points to take its first double-digit lead of the game. Chose scored the first five points of the span and then followed an Adam Freese lay-up with a jumper for a 57-45 lead with 13:13 to play.

After Stonehill took a 13-point lead with 10:39 to go, the Dolphins scored eight of the next 10 points to get within seven, but could not get any closer. Hernandez bookended the spurt with three-pointers.

The Skyhawks responded with a 12-2 run over 3:39 to put the game away. Moreton had five of the points, Urmilevicius had four and Boen scored three.

The Dolphins scored 10 of the last 14 points to deliver the final score.

Le Moyne (10-5, 6-1 NE10), which was the last team in the NE10 to lose a conference game, is back in action at home on Tuesday against Franklin Pierce University at 7:00 p.m.
