Ryan Roland (Syracuse, N.Y./Westhill/Mercyhurst) and junior guard
Tim Leavell (Marion, Ind./Marion/State Fair C.C.) each scored 19 points to lead the Le Moyne College men's basketball team to an 83-73 come-from-behind victory over Southern New Hampshire University on Saturday afternoon in Northeast-10 Conference action at Stan Spirou Field House.
Roland tallied 14 of his 19 points in the second half, while adding nine rebounds and seven assists. Leavell recorded 12 of his 19 points after halftime. Senior forward
Tom Brown (Ellicott City, Md./Centennial) registered his eighth double-double of the year with 18 points, including nine in each half, and 10 rebounds, while adding three assists and three steals. Sophomore guard
Nino Hernandez (Gardner, Mass./The Winchendon School/Bryant) collected his first career double-double with 12 points and a career-high 10 rebounds, including six on the offensive end.
Shawn Montague led the Penmen in the loss with a double-double of 17 points and 10 rebounds, while adding three steals and two blocks. Eamonn Joyce posted 14 points and six rebounds. Michael Almonacy and Ryan Conroy each tallied 13 points, while Almonacy had eight rebounds.
After Leavell hit his first three-pointer of the game with 14:39 left in the first half to give the Dolphins a 7-5 lead, the Penmen answered with seven straight points from three different players.
Following a Montague three-pointer for a 15-11 SNHU lead, Leavell made two free throws and redshirt senior guard
Malik Garner (Midland, Mich./H.H. Dow/Sunrise Christian Academy/Saginaw Valley State) drilled a three-pointer to put the Dolphins in front with 10:47 left.
The teams then went back and forth over the next nine minutes with the lead changing sides 10 times.
The lead changed for the final time of the half with 1:05 left on a pair of technical free throws by Conroy. Montague followed with a free throw and then Almonacy drained a three-pointer with 39 seconds left to give the Penmen a 41-36 lead at halftime.
Southern New Hampshire extended its run to 10 straight points with the first four of the second half, all of which were scored by Joyce.
After Joyce made a lay-up with 15:16 left to give the Penmen their largest lead of the game, 51-40, the Dolphins rattled off 10 straight points and 28 of the next 35 to take a 68-58 lead with 8:00 to go. Roland scored the first four points, Leavell drained a pair of three-pointers around a conventional three-point play by Hernandez, who then made two free throws for the lead, Brown tallied seven straight points and then Roland capped the streak with a three-pointer and a conventional three-point play.
After each team scored five points over the next four minutes, the Penmen scored five straight points to get within 73-68 with 3:31 left, but could not get any closer and Leavell made three straight lay-ups and senior guard
Zay Jennings (Allentown, Pa./Allentown Central Catholic/Caldwell) made two free throws with 53 seconds left to give the Dolphins their largest lead of the game, 81-70.
Montague hit a three-pointer with 44 seconds left, but Jennings countered with two more free throws to end the game's scoring.
Le Moyne (12-5, 8-1 NE10), which has won nine of its last 10 games, returns to action on Wednesday at Saint Michael's College at 5:30 p.m.
