Shippensburg, Pa. – Junior catcher
Drew Fureno (Canajoharie, N.Y./Fort Plain) drove in six runs to lead the Le Moyne College baseball team to a 10-5 win over Shippensburg University on Sunday afternoon at Fairchild Field.
Shippensburg opened the game's scoring with a run on two hits in the first inning. designated hitter Tony Vavaroutsos drew a walk with one out, moved to third on a two-out single by right fielder Scout Knotts and scored on a single to left by shortstop Jacob Pollock.
Le Moyne took the lead with three runs on three hits in the second inning. Sophomore pitcher/designated hitter
Andrew Roden (Sherrill, N.Y./Vernon-Verona-Sherrill) led off with a single and moved to second on a one-out single by junior right fielder
Michael Smith (Montebello, N.Y./Suffern). After a walk by senior third baseman
Nicholas Jacques (Ballston Lake, N.Y./Shenendehowa) to load the bases, Fureno knocked in Roden with a groundout. Freshman second baseman
Zach Brush (New York Mills, N.Y./Utica Notre Dame) followed with a single up the middle to plate Smith and Jacques.
The Raiders got one run back in the bottom of the frame. Left fielder Chase Zurawski reached second on an error by the right fielder with one out. Second baseman Joe Barbera followed with a single through the left side and then stole second. After a fly out and an intentional walk to Vavaroutsos to load the bases, catcher Ben Werkheiser was hit by a pitch to force in Zurawski.
The Dolphins tallied five runs on four hits in the third inning. Roden walked on four pitches to start the frame and advanced to third on a one-out double by Smith. Following an out, Fureno blasted a home run to left for a 6-2 lead. After a walk by Brush and a single to center by senior center fielder

Jeff Wilson (Rochester, N.Y./Greece-Odyssey) doubled to left to drive in Brush and Tuey.
Shippensburg took advantage of a Le Moyne error in the third inning to score a run. First baseman Lake Lloyd struck out, but was able to reach second on a throwing error by the catcher. Two batters later, Zurawski singled through the right side to plate Lloyd.
Le Moyne completed its scoring with two runs on three hits in the seventh inning. Smith singled with one out, stole second and advanced to third on a wild pitch. After Jacques walked and stole second, Fureno doubled to center to drive in Smith and Jacques.
The Raiders scored a pair of runs in the bottom of the ninth to deliver the final score. Center fielder Zack Zoller led off with a single up the middle, but was retired at second as Vavaroutsos reached on a fielder's choice. After a strikeout and a walk by Knotts, Pollock singled up the middle to drive in Vavaroutsos and Knotts. The next batter grounded out to end the game.
Roden struck out nine batters over six innings, while yielding three runs (one earned), to earn his second victory of the season. Junior southpaw
Joe Vail (Cromwell, Conn./Xavier) tossed the final three innings, striking out four and yielding two runs, to earn his first save of the season. Smith finished the game with three hits and three runs, while Fureno, Tuey and Brush each had two hits and a run scored. Kiernan Higgins took the loss for the Raiders after allowing eight runs and eight hits over three innings.
Le Moyne (7-4) returns to action on Saturday for a doubleheader at Millersville University.
