WOMEN'S TENNIS CONCLUDES UNDEFEATED NE10 SCHEDULE WITH 4-0 WIN OVER STONEHILL

DeWitt, N.Y. - The Le Moyne College women's tennis team closed out its regular season schedule with a 4-0 victory over Stonehill College on Saturday night in Northeast-10 Conference action at Elevate Fitness.

The victory gives the Dolphins the outright NE10 regular season championship, the first in the program's history. The Dolphins are the number one seed in next week's conference championship and receive a bye in the first round. They will open championship play on Friday at 1:00 p.m. against either fourth-seeded Adelphi University or fifth-seeded Stonehill.

The win is also the program's first over Stonehill in over 18 years, snapping a streak of at least 23 consecutive losses to the Skyhawks.

The Dolphins opened the match by claiming the point in the doubles competition. Freshman Isabella Barona (Manta, Ecuador/Talentos de Manta) and senior Brooke Fernandez (Shirley, N.Y./William Floyd) cruised to a 6-0 win at the third position over Marissa Such and Ayonna Stuppard. Graduate student Marta Nunez (Rye, N.Y./Antonio Lopez (Spain)) and sophomore Fiona Pepper (Challapampa, Peru/Colegio Anglo Americano Prescott) clinched the point with a 6-3 win at the second spot over Emma Markaryan and Samantha Ormesher.

In singles action, Nunez improved to 9-1 in conference action with a 6-1, 6-3 win at the third spot over Markaryan. Pepper tallied her eighth NE10 win with back-to-back scores of 6-4 against Ormesher at the fourth position. Senior Birdem Oz (Istanbul, Turkey/TED Ankara College Foundation HS) closed out the regular season at 8-0 in NE10 play with a 6-3, 3-6, 6-4 victory at the second position over Steffi Antao to end the match.

After the match, Oz had this to say about being a part of the first Le Moyne women's tennis team to win an NE10 regular season championship: "It feels amazing, I'm so proud of our team. We did not lose to any team in our conference and that is a great accomplishment. It's due to the success of everybody on the team because we are All In, All One, All Dolphins."
