WOMEN'S SOCCER FALLS AT HOME TO #13 SAINT ROSE

Syracuse, N.Y. - The Le Moyne College women's soccer team suffered a 4-1 loss to nationally ranked #13 College of Saint Rose on Wednesday evening at Ted Grant Field. The Dolphins received a goal from Katharine Stanard (Baldwinsville, N.Y./Christian Brothers Academy) in the 50th minute of the match to reduce Le Moyne's deficit at the time to 2-1, however the Dolphins ultimately fell at home to the Golden Knights, who improved to 10-0-2 on the season and 7-0-2 in NE-10 competition.

Kaelyn Britt scored in the ninth minute off an assist from Jen Bartlett to give Saint Rose an early 1-0 lead. The Golden Knights doubled their lead in the 13th minute when Lauren Amerena scored her second goal of the season.

Le Moyne goalkeeper Allison Moreau (Sauquoit, N.Y./Sauquoit Valley) made six first half saves to keep the Dolphins trailing by just two goals at halftime.

Two minutes into the second half Maddison Vine (Ogdensburg, N.Y./Lisbon) took a Le Moyne throw-in quickly from the left touchline, casting it down the wing and into the path of Danielle Casey (Clifton Park, N.Y./Shenendehowa) who chased the ball to the goal line and sent a cross with her left foot to Stanard in the middle of the Saint Rose penalty area. Standard used her body to shield the ball from a Golden Knights defender, turned towards her right shoulder and from inside the six yard box took a shot with her left foot that Saint Rose goalkeeper Marika Laurendeau was able to deflect but unable to keep out of the net. The ball bounced past the goal line, giving Stanard her second goal of the season and cutting the Golden Knights lead to 2-1.

Saint Rose answered back almost immediately. In the 50th minute, Janina Mueller made a run down the right wing and sent a pass to Tatiana Leggiero in the middle of the Le Moyne penalty area. Leggiero sent a shot with her left foot past Moreau and into the back of the net to extend the Saint Rose lead to 3-1.

Sanna Rein scored on a penalty kick in the 79th minute to give the Golden Knights a 4-1 lead.

The Dolphins continued to fight and create chances down the stretch. In the 76th minute senior midfielder Ali Greco (Niskayuna, N.Y./Niskayuna) sent a cross from the right sideline over the defense to Brooke Wilson (Rochester, N.Y./Hilton) who got free at the back post and put a shot on goal that was saved by Laurendeau. With just under 10 minutes remaining in the second half senior defender Vittoria Fuduli (East Meadow, N.Y./East Meadow) got the ball at midfield and took her space going forward, charging up the field all the way to the edge of the 18-yard box before sending a shot on the ground towards goal that was scooped up by Laurendeau.

The Le Moyne women's soccer team will hit the road to take on Bentley University on Saturday, October 23 at 11:00 a.m. EST.
