VOLLEYBALL UPENDED BY SOUTHERN NEW HAMPSHIRE, 3-0

Syracuse, N.Y. – Chiara DiValerio recorded a double-double to lead Southern New Hampshire University to a 3-0 win over the Le Moyne College volleyball team in Northeast-10 Conference action on Friday night at Ted Grant Court.

"Though we did not get the desired outcome, our energy was much better today," said head coach Bethany Fabian '13, M '17." We just need to cut down on our unforced errors and we will find success."

The Dolphins opened the match with four of the first five points. The Penmen answered with a 10-1 run to open up an 11-5 lead. After the Dolphins closed within 13-10, Southern New Hampshire scored four points in a row. The Dolphins responded with five consecutive points to cut their deficit to two. The Penmen closed out the set with eight of the last nine points, including the final six, for a 25-16 win.

Le Moyne started the second set with four of the first five points again and tallied eight of the first 11. Southern New Hampshire responded with a 4-0 run and a 5-0 run around a 3-1 spurt by the Dolphins to take a 13-11 lead. The Dolphins answered with four of the next five points to regain the lead. After the Penmen took a 17-16 lead, the Dolphins posted five of the next six points for a 21-18 advantage. Southern New Hampshire responded with seven straight points to win the set, 25-21.

The teams went back and forth over the first 28 points of the third set, resulting in 11 ties. After the Dolphins tied the score at 14 for the final time, the Penmen scored four straight points to take the lead for good. The Dolphins countered with three points to get within 18-17, but Southern New Hampshire scored three in a row of its own to go back up by four. Le Moyne used a 3-1 spurt to get within 22-20, but the Penmen countered with three of the last four points to close out the match with a 25-21 win.

Senior middle blocker Lexi Petraitis (Kings Park, N.Y./Kings Park) led the Dolphins offensively with nine kills on a .381 hitting percentage. Graduate student setter Emily Yancone (Rochester, N.Y./Our Lady of Mercy) recorded her eighth double-double of the season with 24 assists and 14 digs, while adding three kills. Sophomore defensive specialist Madison Dembroski (Plattekill, N.Y./Wallkill) joined Yancone in posting 14 digs, while senior libero Emily Mosack (Webster, N.Y./Webster-Schroeder) and redshirt freshman Maethavee Siphakongviseth (Rochester, N.Y./Gates-Chili) each tallied 10 digs with Mosack adding five service aces.

DiValerio tallied 12 kills on a .355 hitting percentage and recorded 12 digs. Dai Thawnghmung registered 10 kills and hit .333. Sara Montefameglio directed the offense with 35 assists to go with seven digs and three blocks. Deanne Wilson led the Penmen defensively with 18 digs, while Juliana Pacini tallied 15 digs and five kills.

Le Moyne (3-14, 1-8 NE10) is back in action on Saturday against Franklin Pierce University at 2:00 p.m. Prior to the match, the Yancone, Petraitis, Mosack and Kendyl Gorick (Windsor, N.Y./Windsor) will be honored by the Dolphin Athletic Association for their contributions to the program.
