FRANKLIN PIERCE REGISTERS 1-0 WIN OVER WOMEN'S SOCCER

Rindge, N.H. - Franklin Pierce University scored in the 24th minute on Friday night to defeat the visiting Le Moyne College women's soccer team 1-0 at Sodexo Field.

A long throw-in sent Franklin Pierce junior Viridiana Vasquez Kloss chasing after the ball down the right sideline. Kloss carried the ball into the right side of the Le Moyne 18-yard box before sending a pass to Ciersten Palumbo in the center of the penalty area. Palumbo's first touch was a shot with her left foot aimed low to the right side of the net. Junior goalkeeper Allison Moreau (Sauquoit, N.Y./Sauquoit Valley), who was sliding to her right as the pass was made across the box, shifted her momentum in response to the shot and dove to her left. Moreau got her hands on the ball, but couldn't corrall it completely, and it bounced past the goal line to give the Ravens a 1-0 lead.

In the 27th minute senior midfielder Ali Greco (Niskayuna, N.Y./Niskayuna) drew a foul right outside the Franklin Pierce penalty area. Rachel Wengender (Webster, N.Y./Webster Schroeder) stepped up to take the free kick. The senior defender took a shot off the set piece, but it sailed just above the upper right corner of the frame and out of bounds for a Ravens goal kick.

With just under 14 minutes remaining in the first half, Amya Naja (Gansevoort, N.Y./South Glen Falls) received the ball off a throw in on the right wing. Naja got past her defender and dribbled to the upper left corner of the Franklin Pierce 18-yard box. The junior forward ripped a shot with her right foot on the ground toward goal, but Franklin Pierce goalkeeper Emilie Fox scooped it up to maintain her clean sheet.

Moreau made six second half saves for the Dolphins to keep the deficit at just 1-0, but Le Moyne was unable to find the equalizing goal. First year players Danielle Casey (Clifton Park, N.Y./Shenendehowa) and Brooke Wilson (Rochester, N.Y./Hilton) both took shots in the second half, but neither were on target and the Dolphins eventually fell 1-0 on the road.

Franklin Pierce improved to 9-3-3 overall and 6-3-3 in NE10 competition following the win.

The Le Moyne College women's soccer team (2-9-3, 1-8-3 NE10) will return home for their final game of the regular season on Wednesday, November 3 at 3:00 p.m. when they take on Saint Michael's College at Ted Grant Field.
