WOMEN'S SOCCER FALLS TO STONEHILL 1-0

Syracuse, N.Y. - A goal from Camryn Thompson in the 28th minute gave Stonehill College a one goal lead that they would not relinquish for the rest of the match, defeating the Le Moyne women's soccer team 1-0 at Ted Grant Field on Saturday afternoon.

The Skyhawks took ten shots in the first half, and Le Moyne junior goalkeeper Allison Moreau (Sauquoit, N.Y./Sauquoit Valley) needed to make five saves through the period to keep the Dolphins in the game, including three saves in the last ten minutes of the half alone.

Junior forward Amya Naja (Gansevoort, N.Y./South Glen Falls) ripped a shot on goal in the 15th minute but her shot was saved by Stonehill junior goalkeeper Hanna Copley.

In the 28th minute senior forward Camryn Thompson attacked the Dolphins defense with the ball at her feet, entering the 18-yard box and ripping a shot that landed in the bottom right corner of the net to give the Skyhawks a 1-0 lead.

Redshirt freshman Danielle Casey (Clifton Park, N.Y./Shenendehowa) tried to tie the game up in the 34th minute when she struck the ball on the ground on frame, but her shot was scooped up by Copley.

Stonehill earned six corner kicks in the first half, compared to just two for Le Moyne.

Moreau made five more saves in the second half of the contest to keep the Dolphins deficit at one goal, but Le Moyne was unable to find an equalizer down the stretch due to a stifling Stonehill defense that allowed just one shot in the second half.

Camryn Thomas finished the game with seven shots, four of them on goal. Reserve forward Lauren Clement also took two shots on goal for the Skyhawks.

Copley made the only save she needed to in the second half when she stopped a Vittoria Fuduli (East Meadow, N.Y./East Meadow) shot in the 76th minute.

The Dolphins fell to 1-2-1 on the season, while the Skyhawks improved to 3-2, with a 2-1 conference resume.

The Le Moyne women's soccer team will go on the road to play American International College in Springfield for a Northeast-10 Conference matchup on Tuesday, September 21 at 7:00 P.M.
