WOMEN'S SOCCER LOSES AT ADELPHI, 5-2

Garden City, N.Y. - After a scoreless first half at Motamed Field between the Le Moyne College and Adelphi University women's soccer teams, the two sides combined to score seven goals in the second half on Wednesday night.

Le Moyne junior goalkeeper Allison Moreau (Sauquoit, N.Y./Sauquoit Valley) made six first half saves to keep the score level through the first 45 minutes, and the Dolphins got on the board first in the 49th minute when, off a corner kick from Hildur Unnarsdóttir (Kópavogur, Iceland/ Commercial College of Iceland), Lainey Foti (Syracuse, N.Y./Jamesville-DeWitt) ran towards the back post and dove to meet the ball with her forehead after it skipped across the middle of the penalty area and knocked it into the back of the net to score her first goal of the season and give the Dolphins a 1-0 lead.

The Panthers answered right back in the 50th minute with a goal from Eleonora D'Angelo to tie the score at 1-1.

In the 54th minute left back Rachel Wengender (Webster, N.Y./Webster Schroeder) sent a ball towards the top of the Adelphi 18-yard box, it was mishandled by a Panthers defender and stolen by senior forward Hannah Brown Trice (Seneca Falls, N.Y./Mynderse Academy) who raced towards goal and poked the ball past Adelphi goalkeeper Sarah Hofmeier to score her second goal of the season and once again give Le Moyne the lead.

Moreau made her ninth save of the contest with 30 minutes remaining when she stopped a header from Maria D'Angelo off an Adelphi corner kick to preserve the Le Moyne lead, but the Panthers broke through in the 60th minute with a goal from Carly Issing to tie the match at two goals apiece.

Adelphi took the lead with 25 minutes remaining when an attempted clearance from Le Moyne bounced towards the middle of their penalty area, allowing Maria D'Angelo to circle around the ball and send a volley with her right boot bouncing along the turf into the bottom left corner of the net.

The Panthers extended their lead in the 85th minute with a goal from Madison Raposo and put the match to bed with a goal from Ashley Borriello in the 88th minute.

The Dolphins were unable to put a shot on target in the last 30 minutes of the match, and fell to the Panthers by a score of 5-2.

The Le Moyne College women's soccer team travels to New Haven, Connecticut on Saturday, October 2 to take on Southern Connecticut State University at 1:00 p.m.
